Californian orcas, the CA122Bs, CA45s, and CA46D, were all seen together in Monterey Bay earlier this month!
CA45 and CA46 were likely very close associates and used to be seen often in Monterey Bay. When CA46 passed away, CA46D was adopted by CA45!
CA45 was first sighted by Monterey Bay Whale Watch owner Nancy Black in 1992. CA45B is very easy to recognize because of his wavy fin and an unusually narrow saddle patch, compared to other Bigg's transient whales. CA122B has very large eye patches, which also makes this whale recognizable!
