A well known and established alien female shoggoth named Lucy, returns home from her daily walk.
After having 6 trillion kids on the home planet (one of them was tripod Joe), she chose Earth to retire and is an avid consumer of cardboard and plastic, thus lives in the most beautiful italian trash box in central Verona.

Technical mumbo jumbo: Lucy is a fully procedural creature sculpted in Zbrush and simmed in Houdini’s vellum, does not have bones, controllers or keyframes. It’s fully controlled by painted environment forces, force guides and animated gradients. Lucy thaught me a ton of new techniques that i’m implementing in my daily production workflow, as well as presented me with countless challenges and sleepless nights that made me force myself to use Houdini as the main tool for entire projects.
The final goal of my softbody locomotion research is, and always was overcoming my eternal fear of Houdini.
The three shots you see here have an increasing level of difficulty in terms of execution and the last one is comprised of multiple separate simulations that include tetra, distance, cloth, shape match, grain and glue constraints.
I can surely say that obsessing over a personal project always yields a unique set of new skills and techniques, but sometimes can send you into a limbo of self-doubt and desintetizes your objectivity over the project.
Due to quite a few requests from you guys i’ll be posting a breakdown soon, as well as opening up a patreon with some interesting setups that i’ve made for various tasks, including slime, softbodies, grains and so on. Stay tuned!
