The impact of powerful men and women that came before us.
I was driving through Atlanta today and I was told we might pass MLK’s house, I didn’t know how I would feel but when I saw the signs of his home, I jumped out the car. I was so happy to be in the presence of where greatness grew. But there was also a sense of heartbreak; my heart dropped the second I stepped through. Visiting his home and his tomb reminded me of the hell experienced, the prayers sent up, the spirit and the connection we have to God and the Universe that will constantly remind us of our gift and our place in the world.
Being black is like wearing a crown … It’s beautiful, but no one knows how heavy it is but us.
My heart is so full.
I’m filled with so much pride
Our grandmothers’ tears will cleanse us
