Faustino is a classic and it tastes even better when you manage to get such an aggressive discount. The retail price is £11 and it is discounted to £8.5. On the top of that, an extra 25% discount is applied when you buy 5 more bottles (of any wine). Final price: £6.37. A bargain!
It looks medium ruby (almost no signs of brown) and aromas have a medium intensity initially, becoming pronounced after some time. Fruit (mainly red berries and plum) is turning jammy and dried fruit (prune - from bottle ageing) is noticed. Also pecan, vanilla, smoke and black pepper. The palate is very dry, alcohol is well balanced and acidity is high. Its body is medium, tannins are very thin and slightly grippy and the aftertaste is quite fresh. Flavour intensity is very good for a relatively inexpensive Rioja Reserva. This wine is developed and there is, in my opinion, no need for further ageing. Despite not being a very sophisticated wine, it shows typicity and it delivers the characteristics expected from a Reserva level Rioja. Very good!
I got this from ASDA. Every now and again they do the 25% off when buying 6. Other places do it too but unlike ASDA, the discount is applied on full prices, making it not so attractive. Do you know any good wine deals?
Have a good week!
My favorite east coast grape!
The winemaker explains this wine best, “Petit Verdot has shown itself able to satisfy a winelover’s taste for rich, earthy dark berry flavors and great palate length. Produced in this way in limited volume, the wine is capable of extended cellar life, and benefits from several years in bottle.”
🍷 The Papa Rating: 7.4 / 10

As you might know and see on my page, I taste a lot of wines…
Almost all of the bottles I collect.
I do this for two reasons.
The first reason is that I collect the bottles for myself after having an amazing and unforgettable experience with those wines. Later on in life I have some ideas what I can do to showcase them in a proper way. Then I can relive those amazing moments.
Second reason is that I use maybe 2/3 of the bottles that I keep for upcycling. We create wine candles from original empty bottles to giving an empty bottle a second life.
Do you collect your empty bottles?
I do not share these picture to boast on what I have in my cellar or have already tasted. This is just sharing my passion with you and I’m very fortunate to taste a lot of these wines.
