Gold dinar from the Kushano-Sassanian Kingdom, circa 255-310AD. The Kushano-Sasanians or Kushanoshahs were branch of Sassanid Persians who established a kingdom in the general region of modern Afghanistan and Pakistan, after defeating the Kushans. Their coinage continued to maintain Kushan coin types showing the former Kushan ruler Vasudeva I. It is not unusual for the conqueror to maintain the coin types of the conquered. Coinage is very conservative. If a certain coin type is accepted in the marketplace, it is best not to change it too much, as new coins may be met with suspicion. The reverse of this coin shows, like earlier Kushan coins, an ithyphallic Siva standing with his trusty bull Nandi.
