From Triumph to 💔
Whenever I make a teapot, I always do a water test pour followed by a tea test pour. This girl was my best ever pour. Little happy dance over, I felt like I had moved up one more little rung on the towering ladder to teapot mastery.
THEN I looked again at the base to see a teeny tiny hairline crack. 😭
The expectant teapot owner was so gracious in giving me ample time to make another, but overall I felt like it was such a waste of a beautiful vessel.
We all know it’s not really though. Truth is that I’ve had a few pots do that recently (wait till you see my seconds shelf if you come to my Studio Opening this Sunday 😳) so I obviously need to address the cause.
First adjustment of 2022 will be my procedure in throwing on batts and ensuring even drying. Feel free to send tips my way if you’ve already overcome this annoying obstacle!! @claylines ?@willyabrupdreamingpottery ? X
This day last week, we were at Enabling Village for a few hours at Singapore Clay Festival. The market this time feels a little different, because we can’t be at the booth all the time due to safety measures. Although we really miss how we used to be manning our booth at artisan market and talking to visitors; we are grateful the organisation came out with this system to protect the community and makers. The last market we were at was back in 2018, and ever since we came back from New Zealand, things move really slow in the studio, we were occupied by other things. In fact, the clay festival was a great momentum for us, we felt the fire ignites again after so long, and we can’t thank the organiser enough for having us. The most exciting thing was meeting so many beautiful souls that craft with their hearts – learning from each other, admiring each others’ work, exchanging knowledge, these are all happening among potters. For us, there is this charismatic aspect of the festival – the aura of passion and spirit of making – words can’t describe how amazing that was. So we want to thank you everyone we have met and let’s keep this spirit together, we hope to see you all again next year! 💙💛🥂
