Happy Birthday to one of our favorite women of the 90s, ever, @katieholmes212 ! 💕 Dawson's Creek was a HUGE part of our childhoods, besides Buffy, the one other show that we have rewatched over and over again, and never get sick of. What makes a show or film classic in my mind, is that it never becomes irrelevant. And that's what Dawson's Creek is to us. Although there are many great performances by Katie, I've always felt enamoured with Katie as Joey Potter than anything else. Idk there's just something about her, like Kevin Williamson said: "She's the inspiration behind why we wear jean jackets and center part our hair while still attempting to master the Joey Potter half smile and eye roll."

Welcome to our 2021 holiday movie countdown! We're starting off the year with a nod to the Thanksgiving season, for those not ready to get jolly just yet ...
1. Pieces of April (Peter Hedges, 2003)
When misfit April (Katie Holmes) offers to host Thanksgiving for her estranged family, it causes chaos on both sides of the rift. As her good-hearted boyfriend Bobby (Derek Luke) rushes around town to make the dinner perfect, April tackles a busted oven, crazy neighbors, and her own personal demons. Meanwhile, her family on the road start to tear themselves apart over misremembered memories, pessimism about April's cooking, and the trials of mother Joy's (Patricia Clarkson) cancer diagnosis. Also featuring scene-stealing performances from Oliver Platt, Alison Pill, Sean Hayes, Alice Drummond, and Sisqó, this is a surprisingly uplifting but honest look at a broken family, set against a backdrop of New York City and a hip soundtrack.
This week’s #MovieMonday is my favourite #Thanksgiving movie #PiecesOfApril (2003)
🎬 The low budget indie film is written and directed by #PeterHedges It stars #KatieHolmes#DerekLuke#SeanHayes#AlisonPill#OliverPlatt and #PatriciaClarkson
🎬The film follows April (Holmes), who is estranged from her family. In attempt to bring her family together she cooks them a Thanksgiving dinner - but faces an up hill battle as she tries to prepare the meal.
🦋 As a huge #DawsonsCreek fan, I’ve naturally followed the careers of the actors on the show. In one of my favourite post Joey Potter roles, Holmes plays the sympathetic and likeable April. She’s the black sheep of her family, but makes it her mission to make the perfect Thanksgiving dinner. But she hits a snag when her stove breaks.
🦋 You can’t help but root for April as she runs around like a headless….turkey. The themes of family, love and hope - run throughout the film. Although it’s done in such a clever, funny way you don’t feel nauseous. Look wise, Holmes looks a million miles a way from girl next door Joey. Patricia Clarkson was Oscar-nominated for her role as April’s mom, who is determined to heal their rift as she’s diagnosed terminal cancer.

Happy Thanksgiving week! I love this holiday eventhough I have never accepted the colonizing mythology around it. Here are some small snapshots. If you have never seen "Pieces of April," I recommend it. It's one of my favorite movies.
