Now on #CDsThatIGotInLineAtWarpedTour circa 2011, we have the Sumerian The Hypehog Summer Sampler from @SumerianRecords .
This will be more prevalent in the later years, where you’ll see I have plenty more sampler CDs from record labels. Long story short, I did listen to them, even this one, but unless it had a song on it that I was really already into or a band that I really wanted to check out, they sadly didn’t get much play. However upon listening to it again today, I’m really diggin it. I don’t listen to much metal-core or anything suuper heavy these days, but unsurprisingly I do still really enjoy it. Maybe this is what I needed in my life to get through these rough years, cause I haven’t been listening to anything with enough grit and this is doing the trick.
This was the perfect example of this part of 2011/2012, you still had the quirky scene bands who were into the Twee style of dress, and then you had the crossover of the skinny jeans and headbands on the metal-core folks. If your jeans were skinny/tight enough and your hair was straight enough, I think you were required to do the crab core dance, like it was a rule or something. That being I don’t think I ever got it right and at some point between now and then I was diagnosed with mild tendinitis of one of my hips, so I have a legit excuse to not attempt it today. Sorry lol.
Anyway Sumerian had some really good bands on its roster and because I know Black Veil Brides played Warped Tour that year, I’m surprised to see that they’re not on this sampler. (Maybe it was before they were signed, I don’t know.) Sumerian is still home to a ton of decent bands and artists and if you’ve fallen out with them, I suggest you go take a look cause you might rediscover something you once loved or just get a whiff of nostalgia and fried bangs.
