This year the fair is back again, and better than ever with music acts like Santana, Old Dominion, and Kane Brown taking the stage as part of the Bud Light Seltzer Concert Series; special events like the Miss CMSF Pageant, Wine Industrial Awards & Tasting, and Junior Livestock Auction; and activities like the Diaper Dash, Pedal Tractor Race, and Quiz Jam (not to mention all that great food, fun carnival games and rides, and retail vendors!). It was quite the busy day for President Roosevelt on May 9, of his Whistlestop Tour. But, he met the challenge with his typical vigor, as he visited seven cities. He had stops in Victorville, Oxnard, Surf, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Ventura, and the most special of the day’s stops in Santa Barbara. Not that the other stops were not special, but it was his first time ever seeing the Pacific Ocean. As TR’s train pulled up to the city of Santa Barbara, he was fittingly met by a group of U.S. Forest Rangers from Los Padres National Forest, that would be his escorted guards for the day. He then left the station in a long line of carriages that made its way towards the Pacific coastline. And despite the heavy fog, Theodore Roosevelt expressed great delight in the scenery, as it was the first time he had laid his eyes on the mighty Pacific. ABSOLUTELY MAGICAL. It’s the only way to describe this trip to Paso Robles. I simply cannot explain how much I love this place, the wines (the wines!!!), the land, the architecture, the people. It has been a few years since I was last here to visit @epochwines , @saxumvineyards and @lawestatewines for The New Architecture of Wine, and I will definitely not stay away that long again. I was blown away by both the wines and the architecture at @bookervineyard — designed by the uber-talented @juancarlosfernandezmora of @signumarchitecture and @katiemartinezdesign — and fell in love with the beautiful, adventurous spirit of the wines at @clossolene and @benomwines … so much, in fact that as a new wine club member I now feel like part of the family ❤️. Many thanks to Camille for the loveliest hospitality and an ATV tour to remember. Guillaume and Arnaud, you are truly gifted. I cannot wait to return, and see what you and Juancarlos create together. A few insider tips…be sure to stay at @hotelcheval … Monday night dinner at @lespetitescanailles_ is a must if you want to eat out-of-this-world food and meet the best winemakers in town (Monday night is unofficially “locals night”) … and happy hour at @fishgaucho is a great way to cap off a day of wine tasting.
