🎂 GET TO DA MOOFIES! TURNS 4! 🎉
On September 16, 2017 I made the decision to open up a dedicated movie review account on Instagram. Four years later and I'm still here doing the same thing, but hopefully a *bit* better. My style of posts might have changed over the years and the images I create have definitely gotten better, but it's still true to the roots of the account which was simple: an image that showed both the critical and technical presentation scores of the film/series, and a review you could read in less than 60 seconds.
There have been a bunch of people who've followed me right from the beginning, transferring over from my personal account when I set this one up. You know who you are, but I have to give a special shout out to Luke @themediadiorama as he has always been a huge supporter and was the first follower of this account! 👏
Workload has meant a few new content options haven't quite been finalised yet, but I've managed to debut a new post design for 2021, do the selfie shelfies weekly, and of course the monthly feature events have been great. I haven't exactly been slacking it with over 320 titles watched and reviews this year either. 🤣 It's looking like 2022 will expand the content I have to offer too!
So, cheers to all who've followed me over the years and liked, commented, and shared posts. The support has been great! Thanks to local distributors like @umbrellaentertainment , @imprintfilms , @viavisionentertainment , @ownyourkicksau , and @madmanfilms (plus more!) for releasing some excellent local physical media content. Keep that 4K and Blu-ray content coming, and if anyone wants to slip me a review copy of anything I won't say no! 😉
Lastly, I've walked 266,000 steps for #STEPtember so far (cheers to those who've donated), so I reckon I'm allowed to have a piece of cake!

I decided it was time to introduce the kids to the Terminator franchise!
I remember bring introduced to 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 when I was a kid via a taped-off-the-TV VHS of the film that had sex and language cut out. I was an instant fan despite those home-made edits.
Cameron is a visionary. The designs and realisation of them through great direction and the team behind him result in a film that remains one of my absolute favourites. Despite the small budget, he created a fully realised world that feels gritty, lived in, and more real than the CGI populated latter iterations of the franchise.
Schwarzenegger is perfection as the titular character. Hamilton has excellent character progression throughout. Biehn's Reese is my favourite though. He has an impossible job - to be tough as a protector, caring as a lover, believable telling an impossible story, and most of the time do all of the above whilst delivering exposition on the move. The writing is super smart in that respect, as exposition is delivered during action.
38 years on, the structure and approach still works because it's simple at its core. It's not reliant on anything like flashy visual effects. Because of that, the few effects that do show their age have absolutely no effect, confirming that the film is a bonafide sci-fi horror classic.

• Based on a 4K scan
• Excellent detail and image stability
• Colour tones favour cooler colours
• Levels are spot on
• Lossless 5.1 audio
• Dialogue and effects clarity is excellent
• The soundstage is fairly active
• The replacement of some original sound effects is distracting
