Butterkuchen - German butter cake - is one of the most popular sheet cake recipes in Germany. Every bakery sells it, and every Granny has her own coveted recipe. It's a simple yeast cake that's topped with butter, sugar and flaked almonds.

Finally found some time to reproduce what I have learnt so far. My course started with a few theory sessions on Food Hygiene and thereafter, practical sessions commenced back to back. I have completed the basic cake baking modules and thus, try to put what I have learnt into practice.
For those who are interested to know, I m currently pursuing an Advance Diploma in Pastry & Baking Art after my retirement. I am using this platform to document & share my learning journey. Will share more of my personal experiences and review of the school in my subsequent posts if I have not much to write.
To begin with, we started off with baking ‘the basic cakes’ module. ( Date : 7 Sep 2021) The very first cake taught was butter cake. Coincidentally, I baked this cake as my very 1st cake during my self-taught baking journey earlier.
Initially wanted to share my recipe but I have decided not to as I do not have enough experience to gauge whether I have reached the desired state at every stage of the recipe.
In the beginning, I thought by going to the school, I would gradually become an expert after completing the course. But guess what - I was wrong! Nothing beats experience and practice. Therefore I would need to practise a lot before I can say I m there. At the moment still learning and practising.
Now this is my version of my butter cake, the 1st cake which I learned from school. I reduced the sugar by 50 gms from the original recipe and it still works well. The texture of the cake is soft and it doesn’t taste that sweet compared to my bake in the classroom. Offered a few slices my Neigbour. After trying,she said the sugar level is perfect for her and the overall texture was soft and not dense. Orders are on the way 😂😂
