Between the storms the sun comes out along with the insects, at least until we get a serious frost. Green Lacewings (Chrysopidae) are usually crepuscula or nocturnal. They are among the most preferred prey of bats and can hear the calls they make. To evade them and being weak fliers, they fold their wings, and nose dive to the ground. Described as a beneficial insect and used as a biological control, the 'alligator-like' larvae have large jaws to feed on aphids, mealy bugs and spider mites. They are sometimes called Aphid Lions. #greenlacewing #chrysopidae #beneficialinsects #nativeinsects #aphidlion #batfood #westernwashington

I finally found an answer to the age-old question: what can I use to make ears for my pumpkin bat donuts? The answer is @mydandies mini pumpkin-flavored #vegan marshmallows. They're so easy to shape into anything you want them to be!

An alien tree that killed it's host! LOL I came across this very cool Knobbly Fig tree (Ficus sansibarica) in Kruger National Park, Olifants camp, South Africa. This is one of the few trees that does not produce flower and the pollination process is performed by wasps through the fruit of the tree. The tree looks like a sculpture some type of plant from another world.  The fruit just hangs throughout the branches of the tree and for a second I thought the fruit was the leaves or just green flowers.  And yes, I tried to eat one but it was not yet ready and was really firm and with filled with white-sticky, milky latex. The fruit turns dark purple with yellow-green dots when it ripens. The fruits are edible but unpleasant. #baboonfood #batfood Fun facts about the fig: Ficus sansibarica is a tree usually growing up to 20 metres tall but exceptionally to 40 metres. The plant often begins life as an epiphyte, growing in the branch of another tree; as it grows older it sends down aerial roots which, when they reach the ground quickly form roots and become much thicker and more vigorous. They supply nutrients to the fig, allowing it to grow faster than the host tree. The aerial roots gradually encircle the host tree, preventing its main trunk from expanding, whilst at the same time the foliage smothers the foliage of the host. Eventually the host dies, leaving the fig to carry on growing without competition. . . . . . . . . Art prints and licensing are available upon request. Image 📷 ©2021 by @josonphoto . The fruit turns red when it ripens at which time it must be nice and sweet. #baboonfood #batfood Fun facts about the fig: Ficus sansibarica is a tree usually growing up to 20 metres tall but exceptionally to 40 metres.
