Carrie Nation & The Speakeasy’s just-out LOGOS lovingly reviewed at the mighty taste making Midlands Rocks! ‘a multilayered and multi-textured affair that will reveal new perspectives on successive spins. .. truth be told, CNS have packed more into these twenty minutes than most bands pack into an entire career.” #folkpunkmusic #progstomp #thrashgrass #newvinyl #NewRelease

Trombonist Phil Ranelin has amassed a varied discography, though he’s still something of an under the radar guy. However, on January 26, ORG Music will be throwing an extended spotlight onto Ranelin’s quartet from the late ’70s-early ’80s featuring keyboardist Billy Childs, bassist Tony Dumas, and drummer Ralph Penland. The Found Tapes: Live in Los Angeles is a 4LP/3CD collection capturing three club sets in bold, raw fidelity, the music rooted in tradition as the band taps into the progressions of fusion and the avant-garde. Adventurous jazz fans will find much to enjoy in these eight sides. @orgmusic @vinyldistrict

Michael Doherty covers @orgmusic #recordstoredaybf release Marion Brown and Leo Smith's Creative Improvisation Ensemble at his site. "Recently a friend sent me a cartoon online. It has three panels. In the first panel, a guy asks, “Who are we?” and the crowd responds, “Record collectors!” In the second, he asks, “What do we want?” and they answer, “More records!” And in the final panel he asks, “Where will we put them?” The crowd responds, “We don’t know!” I laugh each time I see this. And though I have no idea where I’m going to put any more records, Black Friday is coming up this week, and that means more Record Store Day releases. Have you seen the list? It’s a good one. One of the records coming out on Friday is a re-issue of Marion Brown & Leo Smith’s Creative Improvisation Ensemble, featuring music recorded in May of 1970. Marion Brown is on alto saxophone, and Wadada Leo Smith is on trumpet, and both also play percussion. The record has been out of print for decades, and now will be available in #translucentvinyl ." #vinyl #improv #marionbrown #leosmith #wadadaleesmith - /3dkr89we

News ! @orgmusic announces @recordstoredayusa release David Grisman & Jerry Garcia, So What 2XLP Out for RSD, November 24, 2023 So What is an acoustic jazz album by Jerry Garcia and mandolinist David Grisman, originally released on Grisman's Acoustic Disc label in August 1998. Garcia and Grisman were friends and collaborators for over three decades, with Grisman’s playing famously featured on the classic Grateful Dead album American Beauty. Joined by sidemen from Grisman's regular band (bassist Jim Kerwin, Joe Craven on percussion, and, on two numbers, flutist Matt Eakle), the co-leaders perform three versions of Miles Davis' "So What," two of apiece of Milt Jackson’s "Bag's Groove” and Davis' "Milestones," and one of Grisman's "16/16.” So What is a rare opportunity to hear Garcia playing straight-ahead jazz music, a genre which he loved but rarely performed. The album is finally coming to vinyl for its 25th anniversary with a double LP, including two bonus tracks, housed in gatefold with original artwork from Garcia himself. Tracklist: A1 So What (Take 1, 3/8/91) A2 Bag's Groove (Take 5, 11/24/92) B1 Milestones (Take 5, 6/2/92) B2 16/16 (Take 3, 11/24/92) B3 So What (Take 1, 12/6/90) C1 Bag's Groove (Take 1, 6/4/92) C2 Milestones (Take 3, 6/2/92) D1 So What (Take 1, 6/4/92) D2 Grateful Dawg (Alternate Take) D3 Dawg’s Waltz (Alternate Take) Press: XO Publicity

Brendan Regan shares a bill with The Way Down Wanderers this Wed, Sep 27, 8:00 PM at The Sunset Tavern. Come here the music reviewed at the mighty Midlands Rocks site: "With a sound that seems to echo from a distant era and delivered in his soothing brogue, Brendan Regan has delivered in Swivel an album that examines the very duplicity of human nature. It’s the type of record which reaches deep into our psyche to resonate on a primordial level .. it scores top marks." #seattle #brendanregan #sunsettavern

October 13th will mark the first ever vinyl release of "Thrills" & “Oh! The Grandeur" from Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire. Released between his solo career and tenure with Squirrel Nut Zippers, the albums show the group taking on a freewheeling sound blending elements of jazz, folk, and New Orleans swing. Each double record was pressed in both color and black vinyl editions, which are available for preorder now in our web store and on Bandcamp. @orgmusic

from @pitchfork on #LindaMartell “Today we revisit a groundbreaking 1970 album, a lovely but tragic record led by a pioneering force in country music. .. a Black woman’s voice storming through an industry she wasn’t supposed to be part of, breaking records by sheer existence and leaving hard evidence of the kind of impactful work that outlasts even the hottest commodities of the moment.” – via @truelaurels
