@who and partners deployed an international emergency medical team and evacuated a child from Kamal Adwan hospital in northern #Gaza today. The emergency medical team - the first in northern Gaza - includes one general surgeon, one emergency doctor, one orthopedic surgeon and one anesthetist. The evacuated patient is 12 years old with cystic fibrosis and in the next few days will be transferred abroad for further treatment. The hospital is serving 120 patients at the moment, with about 700 patients circulating daily, including those who are referred from Al-Ahli hospital. The pressure on health workers operating without relief is unimaginable. Hospitals must be protected, and humanitarian partners must be allowed safe, sustained access to provide health aid, food, fuel and support in restoring the facilities to their full capacity. Ceasefire NOW!

“When they said we can get support to come into the home, to help you to live independently, that was my turning point. That was when I knew, I don't need him to look after me.” This is Nicole Lee’s story. After suffering a decade of abuse from her former husband and carer, Nicole now uses her experience to advocate for the rights of other women with disabilities. Studies have found high rates of intimate partner and sexual violence among women with disabilities. They also face additional types and particular risks of abuse – sometimes at the hands of their caregivers. Isolation, stigma and discrimination can make it more difficult for them to escape and report this abuse. Understanding how women and girls with disabilities are differently affected, and ensuring services can meet their needs, is critical to #EndViolence in all its forms.

Yes! #Tuberculosis is curable! Tuberculosis is treated with antibiotics. To be effective, these medications need to be taken daily for 4–6 months. ⚠️ Stopping treatment early can lead to drug-resistant tuberculosis. #EndTB

With hostilities ongoing for over 170 days, famine is ever closer to becoming a reality in northern #Gaza . People are starving and getting sick. The limited food available is insufficient to keep adults and children healthy. There is not much time left to avert the looming famine. Gaza must be flooded with aid and in large quantities. #CeasefireNOW

Over the weekend, a @who team managed to evacuate two six-year-old patients from Kamal Adwan hospital in #Gaza — to receive care abroad. One child has cystic fibrosis, the other has leukemia. Two caregivers were evacuated with them. We repeat our appeal for sustained and safe medical transfers and ensure all children and sick patients in need of urgent care have a chance to survive. Ceasefire!

« It has been more than 10 years since I was cured of TB, but the pain is still there. » Ahead of #WorldTBDay , Mildred Fernando Pancho shares how she battled multi-drug resistant #tuberculosis and how it has impacted her life. Tuberculosis is a major contributor to #AntimicrobialResistance , which makes it harder to treat diseases. WHO is calling for accelerated action to #EndTB suffering and deaths.

Have you heard about #noma❓ Officially recognized as a neglected tropical disease (NTD) in December 2023, noma is an oral disease affecting children aged 2 to 6 years old in poor communities. Early detection is crucial, as the disease rapidly destroys facial tissues & bones. Rafiq is one of many children and young people in northern #Gaza who are starving and suffering from grievous injuries. History will judge us all for what these children are enduring. Ceasefire! Allow immediate, unfettered, scaled-up humanitarian access.

It's World #OralHealth Day. Healthy teeth & gums benefit our physical health, comfort with socialising & general well-being. Yet oral health care is often expensive, putting a large financial strain on families. That’s why it’s important to make it a key part of primary health care.
