Happy Birthday to my Queen Mama ❤️👑 My mom’s birthday lands on the Anniversary of the Nakba, where almost one million Palestinians were forcefully displaced from their homes to sadly becoming refugees. It happened again during the war in 1967, called the Naksa, where my mom had to flee with her family, at just 9yrs old. She walked for 4 days, with no food or water from Palestine to Jordan. She walked over dead bodies. The details of her stories can make anyone cry. I can’t imagine the trauma she witnessed at that age. I can’t imagine the trauma the Palestinians are witnessing on the daily today. I pray we don’t have to witness this any longer, where we can live in a world with dignity, freedom and peace. Like Malcolm X said, “you can’t separate peace from freedom, because no one can be at peace, unless he has his freedom.” #freepalestine
Palestine is the land of Olive Trees. My grandfather was a farmer and owned huge plots of land filled with olive trees, fields of wheat, apricot and grape trees. That’s me at 2 years old with my mom & siblings by his olive trees and picking wheat. You’ll see my Sidi (grandpa) with his sickle cropping his wheats. In the early 90s, Israel destroyed almost all of his land, amongst many other farmers in the village, to build a highway made for the use of Israelis only. As they continue to increase Israeli settlements and displace Palestinians, they also continue to destroy the agricultural life for many Palestinian farmers today. This is why Palestinians are protesting in Jerusalem, from Sheikh Jarrah all the way to Gaza. And we will continue to do so until we see justice & full liberation. Our olive trees are a symbol of Palestinian resistance and resilience and no matter how many they try to destroy, our roots are deeply embedded in this land.
Free Palestine until it’s backwards 🇵🇸🕊
