📮 Signed, sealed, delivered - political party leaders, it’s your turn! Today we’re at Parliament to hand in our petition - signed by over 150,000 of you - calling on all UK political party leaders to make sure Universal Credit at least covers the cost of our essentials. Millions of people are going without essentials like food, toiletries, and a warm home because Universal Credit is falling short. This isn’t right and it’s time for action. It’s time for an Essentials Guarantee. 👏 Thank you to each and every one of you who signed our petition. Our collective voices are impossible to ignore, and together, we will end hunger in the UK. 💚

When her dad’s health declined, Siobhan had to quit her job to become his full-time carer. They were left with no income and turned to a food bank for support. 🗣️ Siobhan shared her story with us - and spoke about what needs to change to end hunger in the UK. 💚

Making sure everyone can afford the essentials is no easy task. But together, we’re making important progress. 💚 Swipe 👉 to see 3 ways you’ve helped us make a difference in our campaign to make sure Universal Credit protects people from going without the essentials. We know we still have a long way to go. And while we continue to campaign for a better future, food banks are working flat-out to support people on the lowest incomes. Please follow the link in our bio and send food banks a message of support to help them keep going. 🔎 [Image description: A series of 5 graphics sharing the following text: 3 ways we're making progress in our campaign to Guarantee our Essentials. 1. We've been in the news and in our communities raising awareness of how low levels of Universal Credit are pushing people to food banks. 2. People are coming together to call for change. Over 150,000 people signed our petition. 3. Politicians are listening. Politicians across the political spectrum agree there needs to be a new way of setting social security payments based on people's living costs. We still have a long way to go to secure an Essentials Guarantee that makes sure Universal Credit at least covers the cost of essentials. But together, we know we can get there.]

11.3 million people are facing hunger in the UK. This isn’t right. This isn’t the kind of society we want to live in. We want to end hunger in the UK. And if we all get behind the change that’s needed, we know we can make it happen. Swipe 👉 to discover 6 things you might not know about hunger in the UK – and what we can do to fix it. 💚 [Image description: A series of seven images, sharing the following text: 6 things to know about hunger in the UK. 1. 1 in 7 people in the UK face hunger. That's 11.3 million people skipping meals or cutting back on food. 2. Disabled people, carers and families with children are more likely to face hunger. 3. Emergency food support is a last resort. People exhaust all other options before turning to a food bank. 4. People facing hunger can also experience severe social isolation. 5. Hunger in the UK isn't about a lack of food. It's about a lack of income. 6. Hunger isn't inevitable. If we all get behind the change that's needed, we can end the need for food banks.]

💌 We’ve got mail! You’ve been sending in messages of support to food banks in our network. Today, we’re sharing them. Swipe 👉 to read the messages. Low levels of Universal Credit are pushing more and more people to food banks’ doors. They’re being stretched to breaking point. The solution is a supportive social security system that protects us all from going without the essentials – and we’re campaigning to make this happen. And while we push for an Essentials Guarantee, your messages of support are helping food banks to keep going. Thank you. 💚 If you haven’t already, you can send your own message of support to food banks by clicking the link in our bio. 🔎 [Image description: Four messages of support. Message 1: "Without you, me and my children would go hungry for days. Your support and work you do is a work of love, and care, and beautiful kindness." Message 2: "It is absolutely unacceptable that we need the services of food banks... I truly hope that soon, one of our political leaders has the courage to make a positive change." Message 3: "The volunteers I have met at the food bank are dedicated and courageous in the face of increasing numbers of people and depleted essential supplies. They are remarkable people." Message 4: "Do not lose heart - the majority are with you."

Today on International Day of Happiness, we’re sharing four things that would make us jump for joy! 🙌💚 [Image description: A screenshot of a notes app on a phone, with a list of four things that would make us happy. 1. A society where we're all free from hunger. 2. People regularly donating food to food banks. 3. The government ensuring everyone can afford the essentials. 4. People sending a message of support to our food banks. Behind is a video of a woman, who works at a food bank, taking a crate of food from a shelf, then putting it back on]

Money worries are incredibly stressful – and it’s often difficult to know where to turn to for help. That’s why many food banks in our network can provide guidance with money matters, as well as emergency food. This extra support is vital. It helps people increase their income so they don’t need to turn to a food bank again in the future. 💚 #DebtAwarenessWeek [Image description: Green graphic with a quote on from Juliet Mead at Eastbourne Foodbank, which reads "A lady we supported was afraid and scared, but being able to come through our doors and talk to someone to help sort out the debt gave her the confidence to make the changes and helped her to turn her life around."]

No parent should ever have to worry about whether they can afford food for their child. But as single mum Lowri shares, she was left with little income and little support from the social security system when her business unexpectedly had to close. Lowri turned to her local food bank, who provided her with food and gave her back hope. This is her story. 💚

When you think of donating to a food bank, many of us may think of giving pasta, tinned food or cereal. Though this food is always appreciated, the food banks in our network are also in need of some more unexpected, but essential, items. Every food donation makes a difference, as they help the food banks in our network support people in their communities. 💚 Follow the link in our bio to find your local food bank and discover what items they need the most. 🔍 Image description: 8 light green graphics with a photo of food or other essential items. Copy on each image reads: Image 1: 6 Unexpected things food banks need. Image 2: Free from food, including gluten free and diary free food. Image 3: Tin openers. These are helpful as food banks often receive tinned food. Image 4: Toiletries, including toothpaste, soap and hand wash. Image 5: Toilet rolls Image 6: Household items, including detergent and washing up liquid. Image 7: Nappies and other baby supplies including baby wipes and toiletries. Image 8: Before donating to your local food bank, please check what items they need the most. Thank you.
