To those of you wondering what the heck I've been doing since my last short story and my last novel, The Other Country, was published: I have, in fact, I think (it's being read by a couple of trusted readers as I post this) finally finished my rewrite of the tentatively titled experimental historical mystery fictional memoir "The Hollow Men." And I stand by my premise that Hart Crane killed Harry Crosby and Josephine Noyes Roach Bigelow at Stanley Mortimer Jr.'s mother's apartment at The Hotel des Artistes.

Dear fake celebrities with 'private' accounts, and crypto kings and queens. I ain't buying your shit. I covered foreign exchange, energy and macroeconomics, and Federal Court, for much of 25 years at AP-Dow Jones, Dow Jones News Services, and The Wall Street Journal, in the US and Spain, and before that, covered public safety, law enforcement, including fraud and forgery (thank you ATF and Secret Service) and firefighting, the military and FEMA. I am friends, "pen" pals, and at least have passing (quite literally, on occasion, because of where I live) acquaintance with a number of real people (who happen to have at least a modicum of celebrity in their arts/fields), and have no desire to communicate personal information: "what is your real name, and where are you from? Are you married or single? Do you have a pet? What is your pet's name? Will you pay for a bank card so I can see you? Do you have WhatsApp or Google Chat? Can you give me your password/social security number?" with any rando contacting me out of the blue whose authenticity I can't verify with a simple call/message to a mutual friend. You will either be blocked, or your profile will be forwarded to the proper (not Instagram) authorities.

So, I voted. But I didn't get a sticker! Had an interesting experience at my usual polling place. First, had to sign on a screen for my ballot tag. Who's signature looks 'true' signing with a stylus on a screen? Next, the usual paper signature, which is how it's been since I first voted in the 1980 election in Wisconsin (and investigated financing irregularities in the then-Republican Wisconsin governor's campaign - Lee Dreyfus, who had been my branch university's chancellor at the time). Next, was handed my paper ballot and a marker. Went to the standing 'privacy' booth that looked like an old phone bank, as if I would have to hide my answers to a test if anyone walked behind me. Turned in the paper ballot to be scanned and...the machine couldn't read it. Because the marker had bled through the two-sided ballot. Had to void it as a 'spoiled' ballot, and got another one - with a ballpoint pen this time. And it said "Ballot Cast," after reading it. And eating it. And that was it. In other words: don't be discouraged. And don't be in a hurry. Make sure your votes are cast and counted before leaving the polling area. Even if you forget to ask for a sticker.

November roses, peppers, tomatoes. Seriously reconsidering my aversion to living anywhere farther north as global warming keeps the US Northeast in near-summer temperatures after Hallowe'en...talk about scary!

After 30 years of nursing the ol' GranGaggia, purchased as our first wedding anniversary present to each other, my wife of 31 years, Classical Guitarist @leighannnarum , and I purchased a new DeLonghi home espresso coffee maker for this May's 31st . And we expect to get another 30 years out of it, and couldn't be more pleased...#weddinganniversaries #delonghicoffeemachine #cafeespresso #cafébustelo #easylikesundaymorning
