Story, Story, Story. - Please Read Caption 🙏
Human Resource, Particularly People Management, Has Always Been Fascinating To Me Because It Was The Role My Father Occupied As The Director of ‘PERSONNEL’ At Lagos State Development & Property Corporation (
@LsdpcOfficial ) And I Wanted To Follow In His Shoes.
(Side Note: I Work There Now, In The Managing Director/CEO’s Office As A Senior Administrative & Human Resource Officer) - Back To Story.
So, I Used To Follow My Dad And My Mom To Their Offices A Lot When I Was Younger (I Was Nicknamed Their ‘Hand Bag’ Or ‘Walking Stick’ 😂). It Was There That I Picked An Interest In HR Because Back Then, They Used To Be Feared And Overtly Respected And I Wanted That.
However, Human Resource Has Evolved Past That Era Of Slave Master Relationship Which I Wanted In My Naive Childhood. You See, Then, Employees Were Seen As Tools Rather Than Partners And Assets That Should Be Invested In.
Anyhoo, I’m Sure You Can Imagine My Excitement Being Amongst Fellow Human Resource Professionals At This 55th International Conference & Exhibition of The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Tagged Sustainable HR, Business And National Tagged development.
The Conference And Exhibition Boasted Of About 5,000 Delegates With Several Plenary And Technical Sessions Hosted By Industry Thought Leaders And Policy Makers. The Most Memorable Session For Me Was That Of Peter Cheese, CEO of The Charted Institute Of Personnel And Development Where He Talked About HR's Role In Enabling Ethical, Environmental And Sustainable Practices In The Business Ecosystem.
(Another Side Note:
#LASG New Head of Service, The Dapper And Ever Stunning Olabode Agoro
@LagosHeadOfService Was Also Present, In Person. He Didn’t Send A Representative, To Me That Just Shows The Level Of Importance He As A Person Attaches To The Overall Well-Being Of The State’s Civil Servants).
Sadly, The Conference Ends Today But I Leave Here With This Thought From Peter Cheese And Pass It On To All Human Resource Professionals Who Might Get To See This: ‘We Are In Tough Times But We Can Still Make A Difference In People’s Lives, The World Of Work And The Future’.
