Whether you’re doing the cooking or just doing the eating these Easter school holidays, please remember that in the Surf Coast Shire: 🟩 ALL food scraps go in the lime green-lidded FOGO bin. 🟩 And we aren’t kidding when we say “ALL”. Here are the tricky ones: 🍤 Seafood including oyster, prawn, lobster and crab shells and peelings, fish bones and heads 🍗 Meat scraps (raw and cooked), small bones, chicken carcass, and fat 🍋 Citrus peels, pits and stones (even avocado stones) and onion and garlic peel 🧀 Dairy products like cheese, cream, yoghurt, butter 🐣 Eggs and egg shells 🍫 Chocolate, cakes, biscuits, chips and lollies 🥖 Bread and ALL bakery items like donuts, pastries 🥡 Leftovers and uneaten takeaway food like pizza 🦠 Mouldy or expired food (remove any packaging first) 🌱 Your food scraps are composted and used to improve soils on farms that grow us more food. 🌱 👉 Find out more via the link in our bio

Pollocksford Road bridge, Gnarwarre, has restrictions of a three tonne load limit and speed restriction of 10km/h in place. 🚧 A structural assessment found deterioration of the bridge deck was impacting the integrity of the bridge. ❌ These restrictions mean the bridge can be used safely until a permanent solution can be implemented. For more information follow the link in our bio.

☀The rain held off as members of the Winchelsea community gathered to celebrate the official opening of a vibrant new mural yesterday. 👩‍🎨Local artist and resident Lauren Green completed the colourful works on a 42-metre rear north-facing wall of the Journey Early Learning Childcare Centre. The beautiful piece is thanks to the efforts of a Community Project Working Group, led by Growing Winchelsea. The mural has been made possible thanks to joint funding from the: 🔹Surf Coast Shire Community Initiatives Grant ($5,000) 🔹Property owner of 63 Hesse Street ($5,000) 🔹Regional Arts Victoria - Regional Arts Fund Quick Response Grant ($5,000) 🔹Lions Club of Winchelsea ($3,000) 🔹Community Bank Winchelsea and District Community Initiative Grant ($3,000). Mayor Liz Pattison said it was a wonderful reflection of the hard work and passion of all those involved.

🐰 There are NO changes to kerbside bin collections this Easter long weekend. 🐰 Put your bins out as usual the night before collection day, or before 5:30am on the day of collection. ➖ Here’s a reminder of what goes in each bin ➖ 🟩 FOGO bin: ALL food scraps such as seafood, meat (raw and cooked), dairy, bread, bones, chocolate, stale hot cross buns and more. Use this bin for ALL green waste from your garden, such as grass clippings, small branches, prunings and flowers. 🟨 Recycling bin: plastic drink and milk bottles (no lids), containers stamped 1, 2 & 5, paper and cardboard, aluminium cans, and steel cans (from tinned fruit & vegies). Clean foil (including from Easte r eggs) is also accepted if it’s the size of a gold ball or larger. 🟪 Glass-only bin: Empty glass bottles and jars (no lids). 🟥 Landfill bin: all other general household rubbish, such as plastic bags, soft plastic packaging like food wrappers, coffee cups and pods, garden hoses, plastic containers not stamped 1, 2 & 5. 📲For more information on what goes where, download SCRRApp (Surf Coast Rubbish and Recycling App) or visit our website via the link in our bio. ☕ Have you checked out the parklet in Jan Juc? 🍺 Council and the Beach Hotel have been trialling this parklet since mid-January and it finishes on Sunday 7 April (at the end of daylight savings). ➖ What is a parklet? ➖ A parklet transforms a number of car parking spaces (in this case, three) into public seating and a vibrant community street dining or green space. ➖ What’s the reason for this pilot? ➖ The pilot will help inform if a permanent parklet program, and guidelines should be incorporated into Council’s Local Law. It will also influence if more of these outdoor spaces should be considered across the shire. ➖ Share your thoughts ➖ Council is now seeking feedback on the parklet, so if you've used it (or even just seen it) take the two-minute survey via the link in our bio.

See or smell smoke on the horizon? It may be from a planned burn. From this Saturday (23 March), farmers in our region may begin stubble burning in preparation for the sowing of next season’s crops. Whilst we are still within the Fire Danger Period, which bans burning in the open air, special permission is granted to primary producers to enable them to carry out controlled burning operations. Primary producers need to apply for a schedule 13 permit from Fire Permits Victoria to conduct these burns. To apply for a Schedule 13 Permit to burn, follow the link in our bio.
