On the note of not TRYING in order to avoid failing.... I acquired this machine years ago and just started digging my teeth into over this last year. I still have a bit of a hangup about using it, like somehow I make it really high stakes, I get overwhelmed with doubt, and I make some excuses to let it sit idle. Never mind the fact that I went to school to use very similar tools and worked, to a small degree, with them as an occupation. Anyways... A friend of mine showed up to work with a self-defense cat keychain ring thing and this was my attempt to do better:) Cut out of 316l stainless. #machining #sobriety #edc #cncmilling #316l #goprohero9 #tormach #fusion360

Redesigned, resized, and ready to go! It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out how to mirror objects in fusion. I blame my gen x birthright for both my ease with computers and my complete lack of understanding things that aren't windows xp. #plasmacutting #sheetmetal #mario #lighting #cncplasma #fusion360

Almost have these sorted out! Apparently, the blue one needs to be smaller, and the red needs to be non transparent? Was never a mario player, so I'm mostly just absorbing pointers:) Hopefully I'll have them done for the weekend. #mario #oneup #gaming #metalwork #plasmacut #lighting

Some of the first larger metal projects I got to work on were these amazing chandeliers. They'd take weeks to make, would get hauled off to some mansion or another, and I'd never see them again. But ever since then I'd have random ideas for lighting. That said, I am working on this mario mushroom. I intend it to be back lit with led lighting. I'm just waiting on a few connectors to arrive in the mail, but when they get in, I'll put up a video of them. Hope y'all like em:) #plasmacutting #mario #mushrooms #metalwork #lighting #metalwork

I quit drinking a year ago. I kind of hid out and just worked during this year and didn't give it a whole lot of thought until a friend of mine gave me this chip. I never really considered it a problem at the time, but now that I look back, I'm starting to see a different perspective. From the day I discovered money to the day I quit, I drank daily. Growing up, I would gently steer everybody's spending and activities towards booze, and as an adult, ALL of my friendships were built on drinking. My daughter happened in there too. 20 years ago yesterday. (HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!) My priorities changed a bit, but not really. Spending became... food for kid, rent, smokes, booze, food for me, and bills if I was lucky. Life tumbled along. It worked ok. It never seemed like it was an issue. What I see now is that drinking was almost like my protection from trying. It kept my life low stakes. "Maybe I'll do that tomorrow" was the perfect moto because by the time tomorrow showed up... I'd have a few more drinks. And not doing it today became protection from failing. You can't fail at something you never truly attempt. I'm not really sure what the point in saying all of this is... I think it's just to make a bookmark of sorts and to remind me of this moment. Going forward I would like to start documenting some of the stuff I'm making in the shop. I'm hoping this will somehow hold me accountable and help push me. So yeah... Words. Hope your day is amazing. #metalshop #sobriety #alcoholicsanonomous #metalwork #cncart

I cleaned up our old light box that's been collecting dust in my shop last night and figured I'd take a few pictures. For over a decade I used to make body jewelry in Montréal and the other day I made these. I took a break from work... to do work. It was a nice change. Anyways here's a picture. 316l stainless on the outside and copper on the inside.

I’ve always felt ambivalent about the word design and this was the second time that I felt that I needed to use it. So now I’ve dropped the word but skiptooth is common as it’s a tangible thing. So separate it with a period? Sure! Here’s to hoping that, by dropping the part of this media that makes me cringe, I’ll use it more. Hope whoever that happens to read this is doing fine. That you’re day gives you the space that you need and that you’re able to see the good parts in all of this.

There is half of an old camero under our house and after some time degreasing and wire wheeling we have a repurposed hub :)

Maybe the first thing I ever pieced together. The clock mechanism died years ago! Maybe I’m vintage now...
