A bit of a farmer, a bit of a surveyor, a bit of a gardener.
In order for your vines to perform at a high level every year, you have to invest time and work on vineyards maintenance.
This requires lots physical labour and precision, but nothing beats the satisfaction of seeing your vineyards grow healthy and look like a garden even at 50 years old.
Long life to Nebbiolo!

A glimpse of harvest 2023 made by the drone wizard - video maker @marcomalicane
In spite of the challenging growing season, we ended up with a great crop.
Busy, stressful and anxious as usual, but now we can safely say it has been a great harvest.
Our yields and alcohol are lower than usual, but the integrity of the grapes was preserved during these last unusual fall warm days.
I’m proud of my team and my vineyards 💥🍇🏆
Looking forward to wrapping things up in the next few weeks.

Free membership to the “Zappa club” 😉
“Zappa club” is open from sunrise to sunset, open air gym, back pain guarantee but great for the environment.
Joking aside, we have been working hard with this new vineyard of Barbera we planted in February 2022.
The previous vineyard was only 9 years old and because of the severity of the Flavescenza / flavescenze dorée we had to pull it out.
Now we have been nurturing this new plot like a baby by using good old fashioned farming, but also applying lots of experiments. We are trying our best to fight against the Barbera destroyer.
Today we are hoeing and cleaning to liberate the rootstock from the grass. It’s great to see some little bunches already growing.

It was an early morning in Cannubi and I am so happy to work in this historic place ❤️The vineyard is looking beautiful and the grapes are starting to change color. I dropped a bit of fruit to lighten the plants and create some air flow. More than ever this year we had to pay close attention to the weather and the humidity and focus on the right timing for the treatments so we can make it to the finish line with healthy grapes. Fingers crossed🤞🏻🍇💥 #elioaltare#elioaltarewines#cannubi#barolo#lamorra
Spring has sprung in #barolo and we are busier than ever in the vineyards.
In spite of these difficult times, we still manage to eat together every day and drink a nice bottle of wine.
We have found if you're having trouble enforcing the #socialdistancing policy, #bagnacauda is the ultimate solution.
This natural immune system booster is a classic piemontese dish made with with garlic, anchovies and olive oil, all soaked and slow cooked to make a creamy dip for veggies 💨😷☢️
I have a strong feeling we will be keeping our distance from each other over the next 48 hours. This is most beautiful and strongest of all the Bagna Caudas ever made in the long history of Bagna Cauda.
It was tested by the most intelligent chefs in the entire world

Harvest in Barolo is about family and respecting tradition and at Elio Altare we remain traditionally modern😉. Uncle Toiu is 90 years old and has helped with harvest since Elio was a kid. Today, I find it difficult to keep up with these two✂️🍇⚡, but I'm fortunate to have them in the vineyards with the rest of my team.
In Piemonte, not only our wines age well but also our farmers.
Apparently 90 is the new 30 😅
