Ever wondered how a year can change the story in a bottle?
🍷Chateau Dassault Vertical Tasting: 2019 vs. 2020🍷
After my recent rave about the Chateau Dassault Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classe 2019, I dove into a mini vertical tasting, comparing it to the 2020 vintage. And oh, what a tale they tell together!
A Bit of History:Chateau Dassault, underwent a renaissance after Marcel Dassault, known for his aeronautics legacy, took over in 1955. Originally Chateau Couperie, Dassault not only gave it his name but infused the estate with a spirit of innovation and a relentless quest for quality. Today, spanning 24 hectares, the vineyards thrive on a unique mix of sand and siliceous-limestone soils, predominantly planting Merlot, with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon adding to the blend. This estate’s journey from tradition to technological evolution mirrors the complexity in every bottle.
The Chateau Dassault Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classe 2020 brings its own character to the table. While the 2019 greeted us with open arms, the 2020 stands more reserved. Deep dark ruby in the glass, it unveils a bouquet of cassis, floral hints, black currants, licorice, blackberries, black cherries, earth, and a dash of spice. The palate is full and bold, with firm tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long-lasting finish.
My Score: 92 | Drink To: 2043
