Continuing our tour of Scandinavia and the Nordic region, it’s time to look at Denmark. 🤩🇩🇰
💡 Denmark ticks virtually all the boxes of a modern, ideal society that we could all look up to. Indeed, not only is this incredible Nordic country home to the world’s happiest citizens, it’s one of the most highly developed nations when it comes to income, sustainability, openness, quality of life, health care, education, pensions, I could go on!
Here’s some of my favourite interesting and lesser known facts about Denmark:
1️⃣. Don't think we Danes are impertinent if we forget to say please when asking for a favour, we're simply not used to using it in a sentence as there is no direct translation for "please" in Danish.
2️⃣. First acknowledged in 1219, the Danish flag "Dannebrog" remains the oldest state flag in the world still in use by an independent nation. Turning 800 years has never looked better - and we'll celebrate it in true Danish birthday fashion, with a bunch of flags of course.
3️⃣. The northern part of Europe is rainy in general, and Denmark is no exception. On an average, the country sees around 170 days per year with rain.
4️⃣. The giant territory of Greenland belongs to the Danish kingdom. So, in reality, the country’s area is a lot bigger than just 42,931 km2, considering the fact that Greenland’s total area is 2 166 000 km². However, Greenland is an autonomous constituent country.
5️⃣. I would say that this is probably the most unique facts about Denmark on this list, but I don’t know to what extent this really occurs.
