During Holi festivities, a variety of ragas are traditionally performed, including Raag Kafi, Pilu, Pahadi, Maand, Des, Khamaj, Gara, Bhairavi, and Tilang.
The origins of Holi in literature can be traced back to the works of Kalidas, notably the poem “Kumarasambhava” and the play “Malvikagnimitram,”. Speaking to the arrival of Spring, they are believed to have been written between the 4th and 5th centuries CE.
Holi tumris, which are semi-classical songs associated with the festival, explore themes of love, romance, and jealousy in a playful yet deeply metaphorical and spiritual manner, often drawing inspiration from the stories of Lord Krishna.
