The Amritsar Partition Museum was a place I knew I had to visit. Marching into the grand old Town Hall building, a hush fell over me. The weight of history seemed to hang in the air. Each gallery widely spread a new chapter, taking me back in time. I saw maps tracing the division of Punjab, read personal accounts of families torn apart, and even saw everyday objects that became tokens of a lost life.
The exhibits weren’t just dates and facts; they were stories. Stories of fear, loss, and resilience. I listened to oral histories shared through recordings, some filled with pain, others with a quiet strength that had endured. Photographs on the walls captured the human cost of partition – families separated on train platforms, makeshift refugee camps, and the weary faces of those who had lost everything.
By the end of the tour, I was left with a profound sense of empathy. The museum doesn’t shy away from the brutality, but it also celebrates the hope and humanity that survived. It’s a powerful reminder of the consequences of division, but also a tribute to the lasting spirit of the human race.
