Fresh flowers on cakes - yes or no?
This is a very touchy subject, especially in the UK at the moment.
As with anything coming into contact with (or being inserted into) a cake, flowers need to be food-safe. Now, some flowers are already classed as edible and therefore food-safe. Some are non-toxic or “food-contact” safe. Some are grown organically, while some are grown with pesticides and chemicals. Some are toxic or poisonous, and as such shouldn’t be anywhere near something to be eaten.
If you are looking for a safe way to incorporate fresh flowers in your cake design, the
@prop.options Floral Tiara and her big sister, the Floral Crown, are the perfect choice. Flowers are separated from the actual cake and nothing is inserted into the tiers - meaning the cake is untainted, no portions are wasted and there is the added bonus that flowers are kept fresh in their own individual vials, as they can be filled with water. Artificial and handmade sugar/wafer flowers can also be used in the vials, giving a great variety of options to decorate your cake safely. As always, check with your florist and cake maker to ensure the florals you’re using are safe!
Head over to the
@prop.options YouTube channel (link in bio) where I have tutorials on how to assemble and use both the Floral Tiara (pictured) and the Floral Crown.
