The perpetual calendar is an exceptional complication that indicates in a single timepiece the day of the week, the date and the month while automatically taking into account the number of days in a month, even on leap years. The movement has a mechanical ‘memory’ of four years – or 1,461 days. Despite their numerous types of display, Patek Philippe’s Perpetual Calendar dials always offer exceptional clarity and readability.
For the In-Line Perpetual Calendar (Ref. 5236), Patek Philippe presented an innovative, panoramic aperture with the day, date, and month. To assure the largest possible calendar display on a single line with optimized legibility, the developers were asked to design a system with two date discs as a single date disc with 31 numerals would have been too small and less easily legible.
