We have been using wool in our products since 1988 and merino wool from Tasmanian sheep since 1995 🐑. Back then, we were often ridiculed for using natural fibers. Today, it‘s the zeitgeist 🙏🏽. While the use of merino wool in fleece styles is still considered special today, it has been standard practice for us since 2011.

Wondering how to maintain the functionality of your hardshell products? 💡➡ Swipe left to discover how to refresh your DWR coating!
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) wears off over time, which doesn’t affect the waterproofing of the textile in a membrane product. However, when the outer layer becomes soaked, it feels damp and hinders the wicking of water vapor from the inside to the outside. Therefore, it’s essential to reapply the DWR periodically to maintain its effectiveness.
Here’s a quick summary:
1️⃣ Wash the items using liquid wool detergent on a wool wash cycle at 30°C and max. 400 RPM.
2️⃣ Apply the DWR to the outside only.
💡 DWR can be sprayed on or washed in. We recommend avoiding wash-in products as they may coat the inside of the items and hinder moisture absorption.
👉🏼 Better to use a PFC-free DER spray as perfluorinated and polyfluorinated chemicals are not biodegradable and can accumulate in the body and the environment.
3️⃣ Hang the item to dry, but don’t let it dry completely.
4️⃣ Before it dries completely, lightly iron your textile on low heat with a towel in between. Alternatively, you could use a hairdryer to blow-dry your item. 🚫 Be cautious not to get too close to the material!
🚫 Avoid using a clothes dryer to apply heat.
🚫 Please refrain from sending ORTOVOX products to dry cleaners for DWR coating.
