Brass Birmingham 🏭 . I met with some friends yesterday at @anglegaminglounge and they taught me the mega that is #BrassBirmingham by @roxleygames - an epic that holds high standing among many gamers. I had no clue what to expect other than some trains and some factories, but my days does it deliver content and moving parts by the boat load! Balancing out a network with infrastructure is a delicate balance, but I THINK I got the hang of it by the end. Excellent fun and one I’m dead set on playing again! Brilliant!

Monster Hunter World: The Board Game 🐉 I’ve wanted to play this for a long old time and, as a new years treat, a friend came down and we played his all in Kickstarter pledge! It’s got the classic staples of a @steamforged_games heavy with lots of cards and flowing mechanics that work like clockwork. Monstrous “minis” and gorgeous details make this a real beauty, but I think what really takes the prize here is how well they captured the feel of the video game counterpart as a board game! An excellent evening of fun!!

Spirit Island 🏝️ . This has been a long time coming. After another long hiatus for mental health, I’m hoping to be back to regular posting. Missed or not, this is what I love doing and it’s about time I go to it! 💪 . Anyway, I got introduced to Spirit Island this weekend (by @greaterthangames ) and thoroughly loved it! It’s deep, thick and complex in its asymmetry and compliments its difficulty with superb levels of cooperation. I genuinely loved this and - maybe because I won? - I’m keen to play it again!! #boardgame #boardgames #tabletopgame #tabletopgames #gamenight #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgameaddict #gamer #gamereview #🎲 #boardgamegeek #spiritisland

Cards Against ______ 💀 @CardsAgainstHumanity is a game that created a cult following of #CardsAgainst themed games. Whether it’s Disney, Marvel, The Simpsons or another media, chances are there’s a Cards Against game for it and - most certainly - it’s going to be brutal. No topic is off the table and it’s absolutely not for the coy amongst us. I played this version whilst camping last weekend and it’s fair to say it made a hilarious impression on me - though with the group I played it we all knew it was for fun and nothing more. Certainly a game genre to play with a laid back party feel… but probably not one for your family!

Sub Terra II 🌋 6 years ago I had the absolute pleasure of playing #SubTerra2 by @itbboardgames and it blew me away. Being a massive fan of #SubTerra is was something I was keen on playing, and it still felt fresh even against companions of its predecessor. Move forward to the present and I cannot explain how chuffed I am to finally have it in my possession! The #Kickstarted was a bumpy ride, but luckily the hero who is @playnaylorgames (who also created #MagnateTheFirstCity which I reviewed and loved) saved the day on this one. I’m not here to dump drama onto this delivery, I’m here to celebrate it. Cannot wait to dive into this beauty!!!! 🔥

Furnace 🏭🔥 On holiday games are always a welcome evening activity, and with that I’ve chosen a few beauties to play during the cool-down of the day. #Furnace by @arcanewonders is one such game: an easy access bidding and engine building game. It’s easy to access and grasp, making for a wonderful little chill out after a long day. Wonderful stuff!

Between Two Castles of Mad King Ludwig 🏰 @jameystegmaier and @stonemaiergames often smash it out of the park with their games, and #BetweenTwoCastlesOfMadKingLudwig is no exception. The player interaction between those around you is unique in that you’ve got to balance out scoring elements on both castles - the lowest scoring castles determines your score - and with that, you’ve got to play smart to not give your best tiles to already successful structures. It’s brilliant and is highly interactive and addictive, though it does lack that whole table interaction I enjoy. Still, an excellent game I played at @thediceboxcafepeterborough ’s social night. Great fun!

Ra 🇪🇬 Oh Lord have I been busy! What with the end of term, my boy’s graduation and visiting folks… I’ve genuinely not had a moment to post anything! (Don’t worry, it’s not another 6 month hiatus!) During that time, I managed to go to my usual social (hosted at the amazing @thediceboxcafepeterborough ) and was introduced to an old game. A very old game. An unbelievably old game. Maybe I’m exaggerating, but a lot happens in a year in Boardgames so to play a 24 year old game feels very retro. Luckily, #Ra by #ReinerKnizia (published by @25thcenturygames ) was an absolute treat in every capacity. Visually and aesthetically illustrations are captivating and made sense. All the symbols and explanations were fool proof and, the best bit, everything is SO DAMN CHUNKY! Tactile and weighty and designed to fit and slot as appropriate, the game slotted together beautifully and looked gorgeous on the table. Couple that with some clever push your luck bidding and it made for a superb social experience, too! Ra isn’t a game that would have ever met my Wishlist but hoo boy is it now nearing the top of it. An absolute treat to play!

#HowWeRollWednesday 🎲 The D6 is humble and simple in appearance, yet, defying all odds, is the peak of board game chance and chaos. This week’s How We Roll Wednesday’s theme (started by @buryboardgames ) is the humble D6, as chosen by @boardgamereviewuk My most favourite use for this dice is in roleplaying games like #DnD5e . Surprisingly though, I’m unlikely to choose a game that uses a game that utilises dice to determine movement or power without a modifying factor. Frustration (the game not the emotion) was the game I grew up playing with my parents and it did exactly as it intended. No amount of skill could remove alter the chance of rolling that coveted 6 and, as such, it put me off games akin to it. Now I’m a fully fledged enthusiast of all things board, I’m more tolerant of its function… but it’ll always be roleplaying games that captivate me when I think of this little cube of chaos!

Nanoblocks 🧱 Sometimes, after a long day, you just need an unwind. Gaming is my usual go to, but after a chance purchase I found myself building this little guy! @nanoblock_official make some gorgeously fiddly models out of their teeny tiny blocks, and this was no different! I’m a sucker for gaming culture, and Ripper Roo was my go to Crash Team Racing character (once unlocked!!) and my favourite henchman of the series. Gushing over Crash Bandicoot aside, this little gem is a stunner and helped me wipe my mind clear of a long day… this may very well be the start of more purchases! 💪 #mindful #nanoblocks #crashbandicoot #hobby #unwind

Power Plants 🪴 At it again with #PowerPlants by @kidstablebg - a game I’m becoming increasingly addicted to. We played twice and hit both standard and advanced modes and oh my days does it get so much spicier when you crank it to 11! What I loved most is how easy the game is to grasp when using the supporting reference cards. These show both written and pictorial explanations for how the plants interact with others’ Sprites (whether Growing or Sprouting!). Hoping to get this bad boy’s review out within this week!
