Racereport IRONMAN 70.3 Erkner
With few days more in between it’s now time to speak about the race. I signed up for the race because of the bike course which, on paper, was meant to be very fast. On Friday I did the recon of the course and there was the first time I thought this isn’t as fast as and more important it’s really narrow for an out and back course. But I hoped for the best on Sunday. So the day started really well with the best swim I’ve ever had. Putting 4 min of my PB over 1.9k. Then the bike leg started pretty well. But on the way out I quickly realised that this course is way too narrow and dangerous. On the way back I crashed. In one corner was a lot of gravel on the middle and I got slightly wide on it. So there was nothing to do and I found myself on the ground. I could get up quickly and could find my rythem relatively quickly again. But on the 2nd lap of the run it started to feel really bad and I was forced to walk to the finish. A really sad end for a race that started and could end perfect.
@ironman_germany but what had you thought about planning this dangerous bike course?? Haven’t you learned from the mistakes in this years Ironman Hamburg? To pass and see another avoidable hard crash here in Erkner makes my really angry. I hope the athlete is more or less fine. So please get your bike course safety under control!!

Really hard and hot day out there for me. The race is the toughest I’ve ever done with best spectators. In the end I couldn’t hold it together in the heat, but P15 out of 27 in the agegroup.
