A Tale of Three Sabines….
Just got the new Epic Hero Series 4” Sabine. 5poa, no blaster accessories, simplified deco, not even a removable helmet… underwhelming. The lightsaber is hilariously chunky. Even the gauntlet shield accessory is disappointing and will not work super great with TVC stuff. The legs are also sculpted in a way that both feet cannot really be flat on the ground, which you can see in the promo photos of all the figures… I just figured that was an early sample thing. Nope. The legs can’t swivel back any further than the neutral standing up.
Alas, they’re for kids and all that… but I know that when I was a kid, action figures that were innovative and could pose were my jam. We already have the Retro line for simplified 5poa. There, that’s my “old man yells at clouds” moment.
I hope the vehicles in this line are decent at least. This line seems a little… misguided. I really dig the Marvel Epic Heroes line. Not sure why those get more articulation than these… well, other than the absurd licensing fees for Star Wars, I assume. I’d have preferred a return of ForceLink era 5poa (quality sculpts, accessories, decent deco, properly 3.75”) to supplement TVC over these, if we’re being honest. But if these get kids on board, neato!
Photos above (left to right) are TVC, Retro, and EHS. Yes, TVC has the biggest/worst helmet of the three. I swear that’s the last time I’ll mention it… for now. A headswap with the EHS might work, but I don’t have the time at the moment. Sorry for the crappy photos.
