Have you ever had an experience that ruins a game for you? The last time we played Dead of Winter was 4 years ago. There was a player at the table who was so rude and disruptive that I found myself praying for the game to end so I could go home. Unfortunately it really soured me toward this game, and I actually ended up putting it in my “get rid of” pile during a recent culling. It sat on the pile for a few days and I felt like I should give it one more chance— a redemption play. I’m so glad I did, because we played it last night and I remembered why I used to love this game so much. It’s now back on the shelf where it’ll stay for the foreseeable future 😊 What have been some of your worst experiences at the game table? #boardgames #bgg #tabletopgames #boardgame

We played Parks! I think it had been like, 4 years since we last played this one. We had a great time moving our little hikers down the trail, gathering resources, and collecting Park Cards 😊 I think everyone who commented yesterday recommended I try Cascadia, so that’s been added to our list! We just got a board game store/cafe here a year ago, which means we’ll be able to play the game without buying it 🥹 What are you playing this week? #parks #parksboardgame #nationalparks #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgamegeek #boardgameaddict #jeuxdesociete #brettspiel ##brettspieler #juegosdemesa #tabletopgames #tabletopgaming #tabletopcommunity #boardgamegirl #gamergirl #gamer #gamenight #games #boardgame #gamersofinstagram #bgselfie #nerdgirl #boardgames #meeple _studies #boardgamecommunity

It’s been awhile. I hope you’re all doing well 🩵 Playing games has been difficult the last year-ish, with school, kids, and work— but I’ll be graduating in a few weeks so hopefully we’ll have more time for games soon! I went to Yellowstone National park for the first time last week, and since then I’ve had a serious hankering for a park themed game. Parks is the only one we have in our collection (so far) and I’m hoping to play it later today 🤞🏼🤞🏼 I’ve also included some of the photos I took in Yellowstone. We visited the Rainbow Basin and Old Faithful, and the experience was surreal 😍 What games have you been itching to play lately? Also, if you have any park-themed games recommendations, I’d love to hear them!

Flamecraft! This charming game arrived on our doorstep this week, and I was sooo excited to play. It’s a game about dragons and humans, but instead of fighting each other, they work together to bake bread, mix potions, and build up their little town 😍 The mechanics: flamecraft is a worker placement, resource management game, with an element of engine building mixed in as well. The gameplay: players take turns moving around town visiting different shops. You can gather resources from the shop, play a dragon card there (thematically getting them a job at the shop) or pay resources to enchant the shop. Many of the things you do earn reputation, and the player with the most reputation at the end of the game is the winner. The combination of adorable artwork, charming theme, and interesting mechanics have earned a big YES from me. I love this game and I can’t wait to play it again and again. What are your thoughts on Flamecraft? @cbalchemy @art_of_sandara @luckyduckgames

It had been over a year since we had played Scythe. Life just has a way of getting in the way 🤷🏻‍♀️ but we had a great 3 player game, with semi-formed plans to play the Rise of Fenris campaign together soon 😊 @jameystegmaier #scythe #scytheboardgame #stonemaiergames #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgamegeek #boardgameaddict #jeuxdesociete #brettspiel ##brettspieler #juegosdemesa #tabletopgames #tabletopgaming #tabletopcommunity #boardgamegirl #gamergirl #gamer #gamenight #games #boardgame #gamersofinstagram #bgselfie #nerdgirl #boardgames #meeple _studies #boardgamecommunity

My first kids-game review ft Segen! One of Segen’s favorite games is “Unicorn Glitterluck: Cloud Stacking” by @habausa The game is for 1-4 players ages 4+. The object of the game is to stack all the unicorns (and any acquired clouds) on the castle and collect 10 sparkly gems. On your turn you roll a die and move the indicated number of spaces around the castle. The space you land on will either show a cloud, a sparkle, or a unicorn. You take that piece and add it to the castle. If things get knocked off the castle too many times, you’ll lose! This isn’t my favorite kids game— there’s basically no strategy, and I often find we spend the last 5 minutes circling the board to collect the last 5 or 6 gems. But there are some good things about it. It teaches dexterity which also helps with fine motor control in children. It also teaches counting and how to follow basic rules. The pieces are large which makes them good for little hands. So, while “Unicorn Glitterluck: Cloud Stacking” might not me my favorite kids game to play, it has some good things going for it. And my kid loves it, which is really all that matters 😊 🦄 What are some of your kid’s/small friend’s favorite games?

My number 1 favorite Tiny Epic Game is Tiny Epic Defenders!! Cooperative, simple, and challenging. This game is fantastic. Every play starts out feeling really easy, but by the time we get to the last 2 or 3 rounds things have escalated so much, we’re lucky if we’re able to score the win 😅 in fact, I think we’ve lost this game more times than we’ve won! It’s such a good challenge, and with unique character abilities and a plethora of bosses to fight, the game feels different every time. It’s easy to teach, easy to play, hard to win— just how I like it 😊 Honestly, Tiny Epic Dinosaurs, Pirates, and Defenders are all so close, any of them could have made top of the list. But I really think I enjoy Defenders a smidgen more than the others 😊 What’s your favorite Gamelyn Game? @gamelyngames

My second-favorite Tiny Epic game is Tiny Epic Pirates! This is a huge deal because up until TEPirates came out I hadn’t been able to find a single pirate-themed game that I liked. I love how straightforward yet true-to-theme this game is. You just sail around the board collecting loot, trade it in for gold, and bury your gold on different islands, all while battling opposing ships and avoiding arrest. There’s an element of engine building as you recruit crew members, and the actions follow a rondel— two mechanics that I absolutely adore combined into a beautiful, piratey adventure 🥰 Since I generally don’t like most pirate games, any recommendations I should try? @gamelyngames

Number 3 on my list of top 5 Tiny Epic games is Tiny Epic Dinosaurs! It’s a great worker placement game with a solo mode and itty-bitty Dino meeples. I love filling up my board with tiny velociraptors and stegosauruses 😍 The game overall is really well done. I love the balance between acquiring dinosaurs and generating resources (each Dino in your park covers up a resource, thus negating its production). It plays quickly compared to other dinosaur-park-building games which helps it get to the table more often. And it has great artwork! The rules are easy to learn and remember which helps when teaching new people. 😊👍🏼 What are some of your favorite games that belong to a series? @gamelyngames

Number 4 of my top 5 Tiny Epic games is “Tiny Epic Galaxies Blast Off”, which is the more family-weight version of Tiny Epic Galaxies. I love the cute and creative artwork in this one! I also appreciate that it’s easy to teach and quick to learn. Gameplay is engaging, the mechanics are interesting, and it’s fairly easy on the brain which makes it the perfect go-to game after a busy day 😊 What are some of your go-to games for when you’re running low on brain power? @gamelyngames
