Last week I was lucky enough to be invited along to LIVE x RETAIL with my
@formatgames board game hat on (sadly not an actual hat made of board games), where I gave a THRILLING talk all about empowering creativity 🎨
I feel very grateful that my job allows me to be creative every day. I am rarely happier than when I’m working on a big silly idea, and I’m lucky that across the radio, telly shows and board games I get to fill my days thinking up fun stuff.
I truly believe that everyone has creative potential - it can just look a bit different for each of us, and I was keen to talk through some of the ways I try and nurture creativity in my own life.
Without wishing to get too ‘LinkedIN Bro’ on you, here are some takeaways from my talk which might be helpful if you’re looking for a sprinkling of creative inspiration.
⭐️We all make creative decisions every day - whether it’s choosing your bathroom tiles or what clothes to match. Curation is creativity, even if it doesn’t feel like it.
⭐️A creative idea you have will NEVER be your last idea. Don’t get too precious about it, another is just around the corner.
⭐️If you’ve got an idea, talk to other people about it. Sharing an idea is the first step to making it real. Try and ‘break’ the idea- if it survives interrogation then it’s a winner!
⭐️To stimulate creativity ask yourself “How do I want this to make people feel?” - the feeling is the bit that connects with your audience.
⭐️Embrace failure - it’s okay for an idea to not “work” - 99 out of 100 of my ideas never see the light of day.
⭐️Be inspired - creative inspiration is everywhere! Keep your eyes open, and train your brain to look out for things that spark your interest.
