Mirza Isa Khan Tarkhan II Tomb (c. 1644)
Mirza Isa Khan II, known as "The Younger," to distinguish him from his father Isa Khan I (r. 1555-66), was the builder of Makli's finest funerary monument. Although born in a time of great turmoil, when the Tarkhan dynasty could no longer sustain itself as an independent state, he successfully pivoted to working directly with the Mughals, who assumed direct control over Thatta beginning in 1613 [1]. Collaborating with the Mughals across the reigns of three Emperors (Akbar, Jahangir, and Shah Jahan), Isa Khan II was appointed governor of Thatta in 1628 or 1629, but was then either recalled to the Mughal court or opted to return there for his own safety.
