When you need to get away from the city life, where do you go? Slowing down comes easy for a Seattle couple as their second home is their personal retreat. Seamlessly blending with Bainbridge Island’s natural beauty, architect Steve Hoedemaker and interior designer Tim Pfeiffer created an idyllic retreat inspired by old beach houses, playing on the idea of a family campsite.

To elevate the fresh scene in this modern Denver abode, Interior Designer Ashley Jacobs layered in textured finishes with motifs that showcase the craftsmanship behind their creation. “We kept a lot of key features, like the iron staircase railings, wood ceiling beams and warm brown wood floors, but we simplified the palette,” she says. “The trim and ceilings are now painted a bright white and the walls are one of my favorite warmer whites, which provides a great backdrop for art without making the house look like a stark gallery.” Step inside the stylish Denver abode at our link in bio. Photography: @emredfield ; Stylist: @ejstlouis ; Interior Design: @cookdesignhouse ; Builder: Mile High Custom Builders | @sandow

What happens when one spouse likes traditional design, and the other favors sleek and modern? In the case of this 1890s home, the couple hired designer Claire Staszak to sort it out. “I was drawn to Claire’s bold yet soft and subtle designs,” says the classic-leaning wife, who sensed that such duality would be a perfect fit to temper the differences between her husband—whose taste favors that of the contemporary luxury hotels. “We loved the idea of melding our styles so the house truly reflects us.” Tour the rest of the contemporary Chicago abode at our link in bio. Photography: @heathertalbert ; Interior Design: @centeredbydesign ; Builder: LHP Inc | @sandow

Near the end of one holiday season, Interior Designer Erin Cantu set a goal for the new year: to land her first ground-up project. Not even two weeks later, she was introduced to a couple seeking help for this exact purpose. Even though the house was large enough for every type of gathering, the couple was particularly focused on keeping each area to scale and feeling homey. Part of that involved letting in an abundance of natural light by connecting nearly every room to the exterior spaces, including creating balconies for many of the bedrooms and fully opening the family room to the covered patio. Tour the rest of the Boca Raton abode with minimalist flair at our link in bio. Photography: @venjhaminreyesphotography ; Stylist: @hilow.art ; Architecture: @balidesigngroup ; Interior Design: @erinacantuinteriors ; Builder: @home.dynamics ; Landscape: @parker.yannette | @sandow

For this Arizona abode, Interior Designer Caroline Tyler DeCesare transformed a modern residence that became a little too austere for the growing household into a a family-friendly home. “The goal was to come to a neighborhood with sidewalks and people walking around, and have this home be cozy. They still wanted it to include cool, modern elements but feel more comfortable and traditional,” says DeCesare. Tour the rest of the Arizona home at our link in bio. Photography: @wernersegarra ; Architecture: @mtarchitecture ; Interior Design: @decesaredesigngroup ; Builder: @arcadiacustombuilders ; Landscape: @berghoffdesign | @sandow

White-picket fences around traditional colonial-style manses may spring first to mind at the mention of Greenwich, Connecticut. But when a young family relocated to the region post-COVID, they had a much more contemporary, art-filled vision for their life beyond Manhattan. Designers ran with this proposed energy, taking a tactile and slightly edgy approach to the interiors of this modern farmhouse. Tour the residence at the link in bio. Photography: @kirstenrfrancis ; Styling: @ryanreineck ; Architecture: @tannerwhitearchitects ; Interior Design: @vanessaromeinteriors ; Builder: @sbphomes | @sandow

The predominantly verdant interiors of this couple’s Nashville home make a convincing case. After finding their picture-perfect 1960s residence, the couple forged ahead with a full-scale renovation. Informed by their love for travel, the interiors are rich with character, and feature various shades of green that add a welcome pop of color in the space.

Old homes—with their thoughtful architectural details and charming quirks—have a way of capturing hearts, including those of one couple who fell in love with a historically designated 1906 Wilmette Victorian. Their only directive for designer Caroline Turner: embrace the woodwork. Undeterred by the challenge, she rolled with the request and found that the warm brown trim enhanced the doors, windows and case openings throughout the three-story house. See how this Victorian meets the modern age at the link in bio. Photography: @heathertalbert ; Interior Design: @carolineturnerinteriors ; Builder: @lmbuildarch | @sandow

Hope can take many forms. For a 1925 bungalow in Atlanta’s historic Inman Park neighborhood, it was a stained glass window shining amid the construction rubble. With a passion for preservation, the team saved all of the home's existing windows, including that initial stained glass panel, while also repurposing multiple doors. Go behind the epic renovation at the link in bio. Photography: @emilyfollowillphotographer ; Architecture: @pritchettdixon ; Interior Design: @gordondunning ; Builder: @macallan.custom.homes | @sandow

Although dated, this home's new owners loved the richly molded interior that gestured toward French Provincial but with ’70s architectural details, including a circular breakfast room featuring vaulted ceilings. “We wanted to embrace its bones rather than change it dramatically,” the wife says. See how Andrea Marino Design brings a modern touch to this Dallas abode at the link in bio. Photography: @stephen_karlisch_photo ; Architecture: Gianna Glaesmann, G.Glaesmann Architects; Interior Design: @andreamarinodesign ; Builder: @chellyannacontractors | @sandow

Fort Greene’s brownstones have witnessed many stories over the last three centuries, but perhaps the most vibrant chapter is its longstanding role as a cradle for Black artists: from novelist Richard Wright writing Native Son on a Fort Greene Park bench to filmmaker Spike Lee channeling its street life in his iconic movies. Today, the Brooklyn neighborhood's storied history is kept alive through the thoughtful redesign of one of its brownstones. Tour the rest of the home at our link in bio. Photography: @ksears ; Styling: @katjagreeff ; Architecture: @neuhausdesignarchitecture ; Interior Design: @jmorrisdesigner ; Builder: @aegreyson | @sandow

To blend an industrial structure with a tropical sensibility, Stephanie Halfen incorporates a mix of materials within the lush grounds of this home. A wood-paneled pivot door softens the façade and aluminum louvers filter light through the oversize windows, while bands of white stucco wrap elements like one of the two garages, emphasizing the structure’s contrasting projections. The mix of materials continues inside. Tour the home here. Photography: @kris_tamburello ; Architecture and Interior Design: @sdh_studio ; Builder: @treoconstruction ; Landscape: @cladlandscape | @sandow
