When Alison Wrigley Rusack was just 6 months old, her parents, Alison Hunter Wrigley and William Wrigley, already had her on a horse on their ranch in Catalina Island. That legacy, with many others of the famous chewing gum family, was handed down to the fifth generation, when Alison found herself on the back of an Arabian horse with one hand holding the reins and the other taking turns with the bottle-feeding of sons Austin, Hunter and Parker. Beginning this month, the Catalina Island Company offers tours of the hidden family horse ranch, known as El Rancho Escondido, built in 1930 by Alison’s parents. The journey starts in the City of Avalon into rugged terrain by way of Stagecoach Road on a fully restored 1950s Flxible Bus used for tours past on the island, and meanders through buffalo herds and other notable eco sights with detailed tour guide tales. ✍️ @michelestueven Read all about it at the link in bio. @visitcatalinaisland @rusackvineyards

@modernism_week always brings the crowds to Palm Springs, but nothing made a bigger splash this week than the long-awaited opening of the oversized green doors to the Shag House. Josh Agle, the artist most commonly known as Shag, converted a 1958 Little Beverly Hills neighborhood house into a live interpretation of his popular mid-century-inspired artwork for a dizzying lineup of tours and festivities. ✍️ @michelestueven See all the pics and read the full story at the link in bio.

Making a Splash: A.R. The Mermaid stands out. With her leather collars, chains, flamboyant makeup and general vibe of “f--k around and find out,” the Memphis-born artist is visually striking before you’re even heard her music. In conversation, her charisma is entrancing. Oozing confidence and dripping with Memphis drawl. A.R. has been described as horrorcore-trap and “raw n’ raunchy.” All of that applies, and one could imagine her to be among the next crop of rappers to make the step up into the big leagues. Not only is she simply that good, but her style, her delivery, is suitably unique. -- Read all about A.R. The Mermaid in this week's cover story at the link in bio. ✍️ @bcallwood 📰 @darrickraineydesign 📷 Nickie Lee Rose

The Los Angeles Lakers unveiled a statue of the late great Kobe Bryant outside of Crypto.com Arena Thursday, with plans to commemorate the Bryant family with two more in the future. The statue captured the moment after Bryant scored 81 points in a January 22, 2006 game against the Toronto Raptors. “For the record, Kobe chose the pose you’re about to see,” Vanessa Bryant said at the unveiling ceremony. “So if anyone has any issues with it, tough sh*t.” ✍️ @izzy_serious 📷 @nba Read the full story at the link in bio

Trading card games grow in popularity every year, from Pokémon to Magic: The Gathering to Yu-GI-Oh. I had a chance to dig into Netrunner, a game that unfortunately shut down just as its popularity began to shoot upward in 2018. While the game ceased operations, it birthed a group of skilled individuals who took it upon themselves to keep the game running in an underground fashion. Peep the whole story on @laweekly . 🔗Lincoln bile 🔗

LA's BEST PARTIES OF 2023 “We’ve lost dancing,” Fred again.. with the Blessed Madonna mourned during the pandemic. Well, if we lost dancing from 2020 to 2021, and 2022 was a rebuilding year, 2023 was a dance floor renaissance. It was the year dancing won. The best parties this year all had a few things in common — anyone could go, they weren’t too pricey and the music and dancing were bar-none. And it’s what they didn’t have that set them apart — stuck up patrons, bouncers at the door side-eyeing your fit or a host trying to sucker you into buying a bottle. The event producers and DJs that conceived these parties are true believers that all told us the same thing: they built parties that were focused on music, dancing and fun, without the headache and pretentiousness of scene-obsessed nightlife. Here are LA's best parties of 2023: @linkup.worldwide @foreignerrrrr @djhabibeats @electricfeelsparty @perreowednesdays @143worldwide Read the full story and see all the pics at the link in our bio. ✍️ @boyface_
