We’re delighted to announce the cover of ‘Judy Chicago: Revelations’, coming 18 June 2024.
Fifty years in the making, this unmissable publication is a radical retelling of human history in the form of an illuminated manuscript by acclaimed artist and author Judy Chicago, begun alongside her iconic work ‘The Dinner Party’, and published in collaboration with Serpentine.
In 5 parts, the illustrated text of ‘Revelations’ takes readers from mythological creation and a time when women ruled the Earth to a violent divide between women and men, then tracing the stories of emblematic historic women, driving the narrative from the biblical city of Bethulia through the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to 20th-century America.
This remarkable book includes a foreword by Hans Ulrich Obrist, artistic director, and Bettina Korek, chief executive of Serpentine, where the exhibition ‘Judy Chicago: Revelations’ will be on view from May 23 through September 1, 2024.

ONLY 6 MORE DAYS TO APPLY for the Judy Chicago Art Education Award funded by MaryRoss Taylor!
I encourage you to contribute to my lifelong goal of overcoming the erasure of women's contributions to history by applying for this year's award, which focuses on themes of institutional critique, the erasure or omittance of work by marginalized groups, and the notion of an alternative canon as demonstrated in the 'City of Ladies' at the New Museum which contextualized my work in centuries of women's cultural production.

As we mark International Women's Day, it feels fitting to honor the women included in the "City of Ladies," the 'show within a show' in my retrospective at the @NewMuseum that featured artworks and archival materials from over eighty artists, writers, and thinkers. It was both thrilling and heartbreaking to see work that I had carried in my heart and mind, that was the foundation of my career; and to discover artists that even I – with my vast knowledge of women’s cultural production – did not know. They come together to form an alternative canon, a centuries-long, alternative, female-centered narrative that challenges the patriarchal ‘universal’ art history.
@SteffieNelson shared her moving experience visiting the "City of Ladies" in her article for the @LAReviewofBooks . Please READ the entirety of her article, "The Secret Growing: On the New Spiritual Art Canon," at the link in bio.
Learn more about each of the women represented in the "City of Ladies" through the New Museum's incredible brochure, available as a pdf in my bio. Forty five years after "The Dinner Party" drew long lines in San Francisco in 1979, here is "Herstory", the New Museum show on February 29th, 2029; A testament to the POWER OF ART.
It's the last week to see "Judy Chicago: Herstory" in New York, my major retrospective that contextualizes my six decades of artmaking in an alternative art historical paradigm dating back to the Middle Ages.
If you can't make it to New York, a newly conceived version will open at the Luma Foundation in Arles at the end of June. With the tandem exhibition at the Serpentine in London (opening May 24th), these two shows will constitute my very first retrospective in Europe.
