Happy New Year! If you’re an artist, you’ve probably filled your New Year’s resolution list with a lot of ideas, but some beliefs are old school and should stay in 2023. Here’s a list of resolutions you really don’t need in 2024!
- Practice more.
Practice is the key to improvement, but trying to practice the same way over and over again can end up burning you out without accomplishing much in terms of improvement. Instead, try to find practice routes that work for you, train your basic skills, and that are actually helpful for your journey. Approaching mentors or finding
#challenges can be one great way to do it!
- Perfect my art
Art will always have room for improvement, and if you obsess too much about the results, you’ll continue adding and changing elements of your art without ever feeling satisfied! Instead, try to enjoy the journey, and learn when to recognize a piece is ready for the world, because it may be ready to be shared long before it's perfect in your eyes.
- Draw every day
Life happens, and some days are not the best for drawing. Rest and distraction are key in maintaining a healthy creativity. Forcing yourself to fill a quota could become a source of stress, which is detrimental to your mental health and your imagination. Instead, try “I will keep drawing.” Set the goal that you’ll always circle back to your art while allowing you room to grow tired, entertained with other arts, or even just rest.
