Reflection Perfection! Wast Water, almost 3 miles long and more than one-third mile wide, it is a beautiful lake with a tragic history. In 1976 Margaret Hogg was murdered by her husband and placed in the lake. Almost 8 years later her body was found, perfectly preserved due to the lack of oxygen in the water. In the late 1990’s, three divers lost their lives searching for a gnome garden that had been placed at the bottom of the lake. Police removed the garden although there are rumours that it has appeared once more. 📸 @a.t_photograghy 📍 Wast Water 👤 @this.girlwalks . Llyn y Fan Fach ⬅️ Swipe for more photos & route 🥾 9km ⏱️ 3 hours 📈 549m Llyn y Fan Fach. It’s adre / home to me. I grew up not far from the “Carmarthenshire Fans” and have been up to Llyn y Fan countless times, but every single time, it takes my breath away. It’s a place full of myth and legends and where my love for the mountains began. 👣 Trail details: You will begin by climbing up to Llyn y Fan Fach and then following the Beacons Way up to Waun Lefrith (677). You will then carry on to the peaks of Picws Du before dropping down to loop around Llyn y Fan Fach and back to the car park. 🚗 Getting there: Park up at the car park - SA19 9UN ❓ The legend (briefly) goes that once, a young man was sitting on the banks of Llyn y Fan Fach when a beautiful woman rose up from the water and agreed to marry him providing he didn’t strike her 3 times. They were married for years and had three sons but over time the man did hit his wife three times, as gentle admonishments. She returned to the lake and never appeared for him again. However, she sometimes returned to help and instruct her sons who became famous doctors and are known today as the Physicians of Myddfai. A number of their medical formulae remain in the Welsh manuscripts.  📸 @this.girlwalks 📍Llyn y Fan Fach Map by @ordnancesurvey #getoutside #exploremore #chasethemoment #timetogetout #neverstopexploring #fellwalking #thegreatoutdoors #theplacetobe #hikingadventures #hikefurther #hillbagging #hikersofinstagram #thisgirlwalks #llynyfanfach #llynyfanfawr #breconbeacons #visitcarmarthenshire #westisbest

Hello hikers, @suzehaworth here with your Monday evening feature. We’re heading to the Peak District, and the gorgeous area of Cave Dale showcased here by @theeyesofdeano Cave Dale is a dry limestone valley in Derbyshire. It starts at the village of Castleton, where the valley sides are almost perpendicular and over 50 metres in height. The castle ruins shown in this shot are of Peveril Castle - one of the earliest Norman fortresses in England. There are plenty of hiking options around the area, with a loop from Castleton to the castle ruins only being just under two miles - so worth checking out! Angletarn Pikes & Brock Crags // 6 miles & 555m ascent This is a stunning area of the Lake District, over on the eastern side, next to Ullswater. With tarn views, steady paths, some steeper ascent, rolling hills, and views of big peaks, it has a bit of everything. ⛰️ Angletarn Pikes: Head down the road, and then out on the path that follows the stream. You’ll then hit a couple of switchbacks, and a steady climb up. There’s a steeper part just before you hit Boredale Hause, and then you take the right-hand side path to head up to Angletarn Pikes. Head up the northern summit to bag the Wainwright and then over to the southern side to get the lovely views of the tarn. ⛰️⛰️ Brock Crags: Head on round the east side of Angle Tarn on a steady path, then take a fork to the right to go up to Brock Crags. Views here take in many surrounding peaks, including the wonderful looking Gray Crag. Backtrack a little, then head down past Hartsop back to the car park. 🥾 Generally good paths, can be a bit rough and boggy at times. The summits of Angletarn Pikes are quite rocky, and there are more scrambly routes up them. 🚗 Parking: The donation car park next to Brothers Water . . Tag your posts @hike_britain for the chance of a feature! I’ll see you later this afternoon with your Monday feature. . 📍 Angletarn Pikes & Brock Crags 📸 @suzehaworth . Amazing scene on Brothers Ridge. When you see views like this, you just have to appreciate how stunning Scotland really is - especially in conditions like this! 💙🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ The eastern neighbours of the Five Sisters are the three Munros Sgùrr a Bhealaich Dheirg, Sàileag and Aonach Meadhoin, often collectively known as the Brothers of Kintail. They give a very fine ridgewalk themselves and are in no way overshadowed by their more famous siblings.⠀ ⠀ These Munros are connected by ridges and cols, all of which are above 800m. Nearby, a wider and lower bealach separates Ciste Dhubh, another Munro and Am Bathach, a Corbett, from the main cluster. With well trodden paths from the western end of Loch Cluanie, these five peaks together form the basis of a brilliant hiking route.⠀ ⠀ For the most part, the route over these peaks follows wide crests with well-defined paths. There is some steep ground on the route's final descent, which can be tricky to negotiate in wet conditions. The route start and end points are some 10km apart, so arranging some form of transport will avoid hiking back along a rather busy road at the end of the day (unless you're backpacking, of course)⠀ ⠀ ❄️ Winter hiking - Please note that hiking when there is snow lying requires an ice-axe, crampons, and the knowledge, experience, and skill to use them correctly. ⠀ ⠀⠀ 📸 @mattmunro2013 ⠀⠀ 📍Kintail, Scotland⠀ 👤 @caropics ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ Don't forget to tag your posts to @hike_britain and follow us to be featured!⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ Follow and tag our partner accounts for more chances to be featured: @excellent_britain @excellent_mountains ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ #hiking #gohiking #hikelife #hikingtrail #outdoors #walking #hikingtherapy #hikingadventures #hike #adventure #wanderlust #landscape #exploremore #neverstopexploring #capturingbritain _rural #uk _greatshots #nature #naturelovers #thegreatoutdoors #weekend _hiker #gloriousbritain #landscapes _of_britain #genuinebritain #excellent _britain #nature _potd #scottishhighlands #hb _mattmunro2013

What a day for @alexbowdensphotography ... ⠀ A mixed bag of emotions from getting up to the top of Pen Y Fan for a sunrise to find it completely covered in cloud, to then heading back off the mountain a little defeated.⠀ ⠀ However, after seeing a bit of light popping through the clouds @alexbowdensphotography chucked the drone up to see what was cracking… it turned out the peak had cleared so they sprinted back up the mountain to be greeted to some amazing snowy conditions! ⠀ ⠀ In the excitement they took a load of photos and got the drone out to capture the breathtaking panoramic views but little did they know the drone was going to tease them by capturing all of those epic photos to then have a mechanical issue and drop out of the sky just meters away!⠀ ⠀ Still shocked by the scenes but then panicked by the thought of losing the drone, their heads were all over the place. They decided to venture down to see if the drone was recoverable (which it definitely wasn’t! They would have needed ropes, crampons, and ice axes to get anywhere near). In the moment of disappointment, they turned around and were treated to this spectacular view!⠀ ⠀ So, a lot of ups and downs, but without these, they would never have seen this view, and a Brocken Spectre… ⠀ ⠀ Every cloud...!⠀ ⠀ Have a great day, and I'll be back later with our next feature.⠀ ⠀ 📸 @alexbowdensphotography ⠀ 📍 Pen y Fan⠀ 👤 @caropics ⠀ ⠀⠀ Don't forget to tag your posts to @hike_britain and follow us to be featured!⠀ ⠀ Follow and tag our partner accounts for more chances to be featured: @excellent_britain ⠀⠀ @excellent_mountains ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #hiking #gohiking #hikelife #hikingtrail #outdoors #walking #hikingtherapy #hikingadventures #hike #adventure #wanderlust #landscape #exploremore #neverstopexploring #capturingbritain _rural #uk _greatshots #nature #naturelovers #thegreatoutdoors #weekend _hiker #gloriousbritain #landscapes _of_britain #genuinebritain #excellent _britain #nature _potd #wales #penyfan #hb _alexbowdensphotography⠀ ⠀

Crib Goch at sunrise: an amazing thing to witness, especially with skies like these 😍 Good afternoon, @weekend_hiker back and taking you to Eryri (Snowdonia) for this afternoon’s feature. Crib Goch is a knife-edged arête in Snowdonia and provides the most challenging route to the summit of Snowdon. It is a grade 1 scramble and in fair weather is easily achievable if you have scrambling experience and a head for heights. It is not a route that you should consider easy - once you’re committed there is no escape route and the exposure is intense! That’s not to say you shouldn’t have it on your list though! Here are a few tips to prep you for it: 1. Practice your scrambling. Striding Edge, Swirral Edge and Sharp Edge in the Lake District are great, as is Tryfan in Snowdonia. 2. Hire a mountain guide or go with someone who has traversed it a few times and knows what they’re doing. 3. Attempt it only in good weather. The rocks can get slippy in the wet and in bad visibility you could get lost on it. If you’re giving it a go in the snow and ice, then you ideally need to have winter skills training and know how to use crampons as well as an ice axe. Have you hiked Crib Goch at sunrise? 📸 @_rachelhikes 📍 Crib Goch, Eryri / Snowdonia 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 👣 @weekend_hiker Tag Hike Britain on your posts and follow us to be featured! #cribgoch #eryri #snowdonia #northwales #sunrise #hb __rachelhikes
