My precious angel baby girl is 11 months & these are the 11 things I wish I could tell my pregnant self a year ago:
1. Trust your instincts - You will know your baby best! Even with Hatties medically complex issues, I knew.
2. You can do really, really hard things. I was on oxygen and a magnesium drip and stuck to my hospital bed while Hattie was in the NICU, I didn’t know how I could possibly withstand the next 6 weeks but I did & I’m so proud of myself.
3. Are you actually angry or are you just overly tired and filled with postpartum hormones? It’s probably the latter.
4. You are going to love being a mom more than you could have ever imagine.
5. Embrace the chaos - your house will never be clean for longer than an hour and that is okay.
6. Don’t be afraid of formula. I really wish I could go back in time and tell myself that. If I knew how much better of a mom I would be and how much better I would feel both mentally and physically I would not of forced myself to make it to 6 months. But also good job Heather because exclusively pumping is so hard.
7. Something doesn’t feel right? Don’t wait Make an appointment with your doctor, she has the answers.
8. That feeling that something really, really bad is going to happen to everyone around you goes away as soon as you are done pumping.
9. You have a really great husband, who quickly becomes a really great dad. He’s going to be your best teammate.
10. Postpartum & c section recovery gets real bad before it gets better - buckle up 🙃
11. That immediate intense bond that people always talk about on social media? That didn’t happen for you but it does eventually happen and it’s so beautiful and perfect and even more wonderful than you could have imagined .
From sleepless nights to endless cuddles, I’ve learned that love knows no bounds and patience grows in the most unexpected ways. Each giggle, every milestone, and all the messy moments have taught me that perfection is overrated—it’s the small, imperfect moments that truly matter.
