"More Than Superhuman" (1971) by A. E. Van Vogt.
A collection of 6 short stories of similar theme. In each story, normal people have to deal with people with super abilities. I've read the first two stories.
"Humans, Go Home " deals with the colonization of an alien planet by advanced humans. Even though humans bring advanced technology, all is not well.
"The Reflected Men" is an early story about quantum physics. A rare crystal allows the possessor to create multiple versions of herself in order to find the best possible version. The other versions get erased if they aren't perfect.
I admit that Van Vogt is a hard author for me to read. I have to keep focused, or I lose the thread of the narrative. I also noticed from this book and others that I've read that he has a certain opinion of woman and feminism that is part of his stories. In almost all I've read, there is a dysfunctional relationship between a man and a woman. Interesting.

"City Under The Sea" (1957) by Kenneth Bulmer. This Avon printing, 1980. A Space adventurer based on the Moon, returns to Earth to settle affairs at an underwater hotel. He gets kidnapped by a company doing underwater farming and turned into a slave. They operate on him to make him amphibious, so as he'll never walk on the moon again. He plans an escape, rescues his friend and girlfriend, stops the Evil corporation, frees the other slaves and stops an interplanetary war with Earth and aliens who are also living under the sea. I had some fun with this book. Bulmer is a solid writer, if not the best of his time. Excellent cover by Clyde Caldwell. So much so, that I've been using it as my avatar for about a year. Nice to finally read this book and remove it from my TBR shelf.

"The Shadow Over Innsmouth" (2023). Manga adaptation by Gou Tanabe of the H.P. Lovecraft story (1936).
There have been many interpretations of Lovecraft's stories over the last century, but it's these recent manga novels by Gou Tanabe that I love the best! He also has made "At The Mountains of Madness" and "The Hound & Other Stories" (which I posted two years ago).
All his work is of excellent quality. Detailed and elegant artwork and a slavishly loyal love of the narrative. I've never seen anyone else bring such an exact visual of Lovecraft's writing. It matches everything I've read.
Even though I bought this book today, I won't read it until Halloween. Until then, it'll stay on my TBR shelf, where I shall occasionally look upon it with wonder...and fear.
