The @ipcc has warned that to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, we need to limit global warming to 1.5°C. In 2019, the @cityofvancouver declared a climate emergency and over 100,000 people marched in Vancouver to demand climate action. Vancouver worked with experts and community to build the Climate Emergency Action Plan, a data-driven pathway to reduce our carbon pollution by 50% by 2030 in line with IPCC recommendations. At the same time, we’re working to prepare for climate impacts through the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. Over the past year, we’ve had some exciting successes, and learned important lessons. We will be presenting our Annual Climate Emergency Report to #VanCityCouncil on Feb 15. You can watch online and follow along on our social media channels in the coming weeks as we share more information. . . . #VanClimateAction #ClimateEmergency #ClimateAdaptation

Living in a coastal community has countless benefits including unique natural ecosystems and beautiful scenery. However, we also face risks of sea level rise, which may cause: ▪️Damage to shoreline infrastructure ▪️Loss of coastal habitats ▪️Decreased access to culturally significant areas and food sources for Indigenous communities Through the 2024-25 Climate Change Adaptation Strategy (CCAS) update, we’re taking action to reduce Vancouver’s risk and enhance our resilience to these changes. Did you know that the majority of carbon pollution in Vancouver comes from burning natural gas, a fossil fuel, for space and water heating in our buildings? The Greenest City Neighbourhood Small Grant offers up to $500 to help residents take climate action with their neighbours in this and other areas. Here are some project ideas to get you started: o Invite an energy advisor for heat pump coaching to your strata or neighbourhood o Share and discuss your climate-friendly home improvements with neighbours Learn more and apply at the link in our bio.
