▶️▶️ Day 8 of #ALOutAndAbout3 Outdoor Propped Pose: #KingArthurPose ◀️◀️ We finish up this challenge with my favorite prop ever: the wall! A wall can be so versatile in terms of progression and regressions and will always provide an objective measure for modifying poses. In this variation, you can adjust the position the front leg to target the stretch for the back leg. You can push the back leg into the to strengthen the psoas in a lengthened position or you can try to pull the leg off the wall to strengthen the hamstring in a shortened position. ▶️▶️ Day 5 of #ALOutAndAbout3 Outdoor Backbend: #FishPose ◀️◀️ We’re into the back half of this challenge!! Thank you all for your lovely posts! Time for the obligatory backbend of the challenge and I return to probably my favorite pose to work spinal extension. There are so many things you can do with fish pose just be adjusting the orientation and arm position. For this particular day, I guess I had a thing for “eagle” variations. 🌻Pose List: 🌳 . 1. ▶️▶️ Day 2 of #ALOutAndAbout3 Outdoor Plank: Side Plank Variation ◀️◀️ For today’s #plankpose , we have a side plank… with Eagle or #garudasana legs. This is one I picked up in a Rocket class about a year ago and have fallen in love with ever since. It’s simple yet very challenging which for me personally are my favorite types of poses. A few tips to get into this one: ++ Start in #Downdog ++ Bring the right knee across the body to the left elbow ++ Left foot comes flat and bend the left knee a tad (this will really help create the space needed to wrap the legs) ++ Begin to wrap the right leg around the left to wherever feels comfortable ++ Shift the weight into the right hand and voila! ++ For bonus points, shift the gaze up 🌻Pose List: 🌳 . 1. ▶️▶️ Day 1 of #ALOutAndAbout3 Outdoor Fold: Uttanasana ◀️◀️ Welcome to the first day of this challenge where we start to have some fun outdoors! For the next week my co-hosts and I will be leading you through a series of poses we enjoy outside. Personally, the outdoor aspect adds an extra layer of creativity because you’re able to play with your surroundings a bit. Hope you all enjoy the challenge!! To kick things off, a “simple” standing forward fold. In my personal practice, the Jefferson curl has been the cornerstone of my forward bend / compression program. Shown here unloaded, you can also hold a light weight. A major difference here compared to the traditional yoga FB is that the spine is rounded. When you arrive to the bottom, giving the hip flexors an extra squeeze will help you extend your range. To make things extra spicy, place a block at the hip crease and squeeze the hell out of it at the bottom of each rep! 🌻Pose List: 🌳 . 1. Outdoor fold 2. Outdoor plank 3. Outdoor boat 4. ▶️▶️ Day 8 of #AloHappyResolutions Happy Inversion: #Hollowback ◀️◀️ The overall ‘work in progress’ go 2023 is the hip hinge with the lofty long term goal of middle splits, which more likely than not will extend into 2024 and maybe even longer. The start of the hip hinge is seen here. Let’s throw in some shoulder opening, thoracic extension, quad strength / hamstring lengthening, and whatever muscles are used to point the goddamn toes and we arrive at the quintessential WIP pose to the wrap up this challenge. ▶️▶️ Day 7 of #AloHappyResolutions Happy Inversion: #Handstand ◀️◀️ How in the world did this become my happy inversion?? I guess it just seemed easier to learn than hold standing splits 🤣 (kidding… but it is a bonus to get out of standing splits!) In all seriousness, it is a major milestone that this has become a comfortable pose. Like many yogis, this was THE pose I wanted to do when I started my journey and while I’m now able to view it as just another pose, it definitely is one of the peaks on my yoga journey. ▶️▶️ Day 6 of #AloHappyResolutions WIP Arm Balance: #PeacockPose or #Mayurasana ◀️◀️ First of all I must admit that I’m one of those people that thinks that the one arm version of this pose is wayyyy easier than the two arm version. Whether it’s the one arm or traditional variation, I can only hold for a few seconds maximum so this post is for the entire family of peacock poses. As best as I could think, the traditional variation is the only arm balance that has the fingers pointed toward the feet so that the counter balance is backward from any other arm balance. This in itself puts it in its own category! Hope you all enjoy and can’t wait to see what you come up with!
