Our booth at Art Basel Hong Kong 2024 features Barry McGee, Chen Ke, Yu-Xin Su, Marty Schnapf, Fu Rao, Chang Yachin and Kara Joslyn. Barry McGee unveils his latest painting. Drawing inspiration from his graffiti roots and the counterculture of urban street life, McGee’s creations bring forth characters from the streets coupled with the values and colorful, hallucinatory aesthetics he cultivated during his formative years. In Gabriel Rico’s new exhibition at @lafayettecollege  the artist considers his surroundings through found objects, topology, and environmental politics. Curated by Ricardo Reyes, the exhibition ‘Referentem Mundum’ (Latin for calculating the world) describes Rico’s practice of world-making through assemblages that are structured with mathematical logic and cladded with ethical considerations for history, culture, and ecology. Following theorem formulation, ‘Referentem Mundum’ reinforces certain “givens” and “assumptions” to posit an abstract calculus that could optimistically offer a solvable visual equation to many world problems. Following the conclusion of this exhibition, Rico’s mural created in collaboration with Lafayette College students using found materials from their walk along the Karl Stirner Art Trail will remain in the school’s permanent art collection.  ‘Referentem Mundum’ is on view at the Williams Center Gallery at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania through May 3! — @gabrielricostudio @lafayettecollege #GabrielRico #LafayetteCollegeArtGalleries #Perrotin  — Views of Gabriel Rico’s ‘Referentem Mundum’ at Lafayette College Art Galleries, 2024. « These [marquetry] pieces are restitutions of photographs of faceted sculptures that I created several years ago. The elements that make the overall image are triangular shapes, each painted in one of the original color shades, assembled together like a puzzle. These pieces are both images intended to restore something and pure objects with a technical and aesthetic quality. I’m really interested in this tension between the perception device and the object as such. » – Xavier Veilhan in Shadowplay Magazine Shown for the first time in Asia, discover Xavier Veilhan’s marquetry at Perrotin Shanghai until May 25. __ @xavier_veilhan #XavierVeilhan #SculpturePark #PerrotinShanghai #Perrotin __ Xavier VEILHAN, Jordan n°2, 2023 Xavier VEILHAN, Marine n°7, 2023 Xavier VEILHAN, Marine n°6, 2023 © Veilhan / ADAGP, Paris, 2024. The @gettymuseum presents @mschf ’s infamous Satan Shoes in ‘Blood: Medieval/Modern’ 🩸 This new exhibition spanning almost 1,000 years, highlights how the imagery of blood has the power to provoke provocative themes and ideas across time and place, illuminating instances of both connection and rupture. MSCHF’s piece, alongside works by other contemporary artists, is placed in direct dialogue with medieval artwork.  The art collective’s Satan Shoe, a collaboration with singer Lil Nas X featuring reworked black Nike Air Max 97s adorned with a bronze pentagram and injected with drops of human blood, were released in 2021 in an edition of 666. Following outcry from religious conservatives and a lawsuit from Nike, MSCHF maintains the shoes are “art created for people to observe, speculate on, purchase, and own. Heresy only exists in relation to doctrine: who is Nike to censor one but not the other?” You can see MSCHF’s Satan Shoes at the Getty Museum through May 19, ahead of their upcoming solo exhibition at Perrotin Los Angeles in April!  — @mschf @gettymuseum #MSCHF #GettyMuseum #PerrotinLosAngeles #Perrotin  — MSCHF, MSCHF x Lil Nas x Satan Shoes, 2021.

« That is one reason, perhaps, why his work is so much larger than life. It is a simple and effective way to command attention: look at this, don’t pass it by. A disarmingly direct tactic that Doyle came by honestly. As a child of Los Angeles, the city that plays itself, he grew up surrounded by XXL advertising. If he has an art historical precursor, it is the Pop artist James Rosenquist, who painted billboards on the side (he even did some in Times Square), and reflected America back on itself as if in a great big fun-house mirror. » – Glenn Adamson, independent curator and author in New York and London. Look closely and behold the beauty of butterfly wings 🦋 « The butterfly is a symbol of fire, of the soul and represents movement. It was believed that the souls of the dead were transformed into butterflies. These insects were a source of inspiration in pre-Hispanic poetry, mainly written in Nahuatl. Their transformation process, metamorphosis, was something that also attracted attention: from egg to caterpillar and from cocoon to butterfly, it is as if it were born and died twice. » — Gabriel de la Mora ‘Élan Vital’ is on view at Perrotin Paris until April 6. __ @gabrieldelamora118 #gabrieldelamora #ÉlanVital #PerrotinParis #Perrotin __ Gabriel DE LA MORA, 1,810 I Pa.Ul, 2024 Gabriel DE LA MORA, 2,876 I As.Le., 2024 Courtesy of the artist and Perrotin

Last chance to see Tavares Strachan’s presentation at the 14th Shanghai Biennale: ‘Cosmos Cinema’! The cosmos shapes every aspect of human life. ‘Cosmos Cinema’ considers how our relationships with the cosmos influence conditions of all life on earth. We have always looked to the night sky to make sense of ourselves, as we might look to a screen onto which the past and the future are projected. If it is a marker of human similitude that we all look to the skies in awe, then it is a marker of our divergences that we each discover differences in them. Growing up in The Bahamas, Strachan spent his childhood gazing into the night sky, which fuelled his passion not only for space and exploration, but broader questions about invisibility, a theme which would come to characterize much of his work. In telling lost stories in hidden histories and stories of the invisible, Strachan’s notion of stargazing re-imagines the experience of looking at the stars and becoming the author of what is there through the act of viewing. Exhibition closes March 31. __ @tavaresstrachan #TavaresStrachan #ShanghaiBiennale #Perrotin __ Installation views of the 14th Shanghai Biennale, 2023. Courtesy of Power Station of Art. Izumi Kato’s exhibition at Perrotin Hong Kong is now open! Dive into an alternate universe with apocalyptic undertones emanating from @izukat692 ’s works. The new pieces introduce dualisms, exploring the interplay between interior and exterior, as well as the juxtaposition of humans and animals. The exhibition showcases new paintings and sculptures in which the facial expressions and internal body aspects of different figures resemble landscapes. This deliberate blending, along with the consistent use of untitled nomenclature, adds to the mysterious identity of the work’s protagonists. Chiho Aoshima presents her new paintings at Perrotin Paris « Through ceramics, watercolours and oil on canvas, the artist, who was born in Tokyo in 1974, is continuing a cycle that currently focuses mainly on female figures, having abandoned zombies and skulls. One of the paintings in the exhibition, ‘Act with Caution on a Full Moon Day!’ (image 1), shows a green mountainous landscape transformed into a face with long hair, evoking notions of animism. In the background, a sexy naked figure plays with rabbits whilst attempting to tame her long mane – a kind of Ophelia 2.0, in reference to the painting by the Pre-Raphaelite artist John Everett Millais. » — Marie Maertens, art critic and independent curator. __ @chiho_aoshima #chiho _aoshima #Emptinesses #PerrotinParis #Perrotin __ Chiho Aoshima, Act with Caution on a Full Moon Day!, 2024 Chiho Aoshima, Piercing Hearts, 2024 ©2024 Chiho Aoshima/Kaikai Kiki Co., Ltd.
