shooting cookies or bars? try photographing stacking them and photographing them straight on like @barleyandsage did here. creating a stack instantly creates a feeling of abundance. i mean just think about it... a whole stack of cookies? yes, please! #foodtographyschool

repetition is probably our favorite composition technique (sorry rule of thirds!) purely because it means more treats. 😉 but in all seriousness, if you notice your shot has a repeating pattern in it like @sturbridgebakery did - try shooting from overhead! from a bird's eye view, those repeating patterns and the feeling of abundance really shine through. they make the scene feel intentional and appealing. bonus points if you throw some texture in there too! #foodtographyschool

when in doubt, go macro. right, @tutti_dolci ? if your dish has a lot of texture in it, consider getting reaaaaally close (aka macro) to showcase those beautiful textures. not only is going macro a great excuse to not have to style a whole scene, but it can help create that visceral feeling of the food being right in front of you, so close that you can almost taste it! #foodtographyschool

HOLIDAY STYLING TIP 🎁 as you dive into holiday season photography, remember that this time of year is all about gatherings and festivities. it’s a time for sharing meals, joy, and companionship. so, let that spirit shine through in your images! don’t settle for capturing just one bowl of chili; set the scene with three bowls that hint at the idea of a shared meal. or, instead of a single slice of pie, showcase multiple pieces with hands reaching in from various directions to evoke a gathering. TLDR... this holiday season aim to capture a party-worthy scene in each shot! #foodtographyschool

directional lines, often overlooked in food photography, are a powerful composition technique. these lines go beyond aesthetics; they help to guide your viewer's focus, create depth, and weave a visual narrative. from leading lines directing attention to your delectable dish to lines that infuse a sense of movement, they're your partner in crime. #foodtographyschool

don't be mistaken by the simplicity of @gourmetglow_ !!re!!_039;s image, it's loaded with compositional elements. a little bit of balance, a lot of framing, and to top it all off just look at that texture!! bravo! #foodtographyschool

want a lil' sneak peak of what to expect of next week's free master class? i'm revealing my most asked questions AND the answers below. now i’ll let you in on a not-so-secret secret: i’m answering all of these in depth in my master class next week on monday, but since we’re here... let me give you a leetle preview: 🙋‍♀️ how do I increase engagement? 🤔 it’s all about creating content that gets people to like, comment, share, and save. easier said than done, right? In monday’s class I share 4 specific tips you can implement right away that will help you make videos that will captivate your audience in all of these ways, leading to higher engagement! 🙋‍♀️: how do I grow my following? 🤔: basically… through video. video is by far and away the best way for your content to be seen by people who don’t currently follow you. and if your next thought is “but I’m so overwhelmed by video” I’m three steps ahead of you because in this webinar I’m going to share the exact video strategy I’ve used to take my tiktok account from 0 to 1.1M followers in just two years. 🙋‍♀️: how do I do this full-time? 🤔: the coolest thing about influencing is that there are so many ways to do it full-time and turn it into your career! from doing sponsored posts and brand partnerships to hosting ads on your blog to using affiliate links, doing freelance work, and more, the possibilities for monetizing your influence are nearly endless. In monday’s webinar, I’ll share specific ways you can get started in each of those ways, as well as sharing actual numbers of how much I make with each. convinced yet? tap that link in bio to sign up for the free live masterclass happening next week. no hashtag strategies, promise! ;) #foodtographyscool
