September 2, 2013, I walked into my apartment, after another day at the office and yelled to my wife, “hey I’m home!” ... no answer. Entered the bedroom to her in a glazed over stare. Slowly approached the bed, placing my hand in her back, I said, “what’s up?” She swatted my hand and rolled away. This wasn’t particularly weird behavior at the time, so I casually opened up Facebook. First thing on my feed was my wife in an excited announcement that she finished a new blog. It started with, “I just have to say, I’m so grateful to have such an amazing husband.” and went on to showcase our life and adventures.. It was such a compelling read, that I felt happy to be a part of the narrative. I read some of the comments, “ couple goals! , living vicariously thru you!” This made me even happier. Then I looked up at my non-responsive wife on the bed, and was brought back down to the reality. After our marriage ended, ironically, I started posting more on social media. Feeding the beast that tore us apart (given there were other reasons why it ended). Now, with over a million followers, I sit here hoping you see my page as entertainment, not reality. I tell this story because we probably all need the reminder: 1 person in front of you is more important than 1,000,000 on the screen.

I got an email the other day from an aspiring photographer wanting to join my team. Maybe I should clarify… there’s no team here , just one person. My intent is not to scale an empire or put a dent in the universe . This is my personal journey and I can’t outsource the process . I’ve been on the road since my wife ghosted me in 2013.. I’ll never forget stepping out of that apartment. They didn’t give me a refund on that month, and it felt like the end of the world. Haven’t paid rent since . Couch hopping eventually led to the fetal position in the backseat. My back started hurting, so I got an air mattress and slept on the ground next to my corolla. With this setup I traveled thru 10 states, 10 countries all the way to South America. I had a year of lonely nights on the road. Often wondered what I was doing, and what was to come, but never questioned that it was where I needed to be. Under the stars in silence, face nuzzled close to my tire. I’ll never stop telling my story because I’m freaking proud of it. Put yourself first. What’s that thing you thought about as a kid? Mine was, “ I wonder how far this road goes?” We always turned off to get to where we had planned to go. But what if the only objective was to see what was at the far end? When I indulged I found the end near Panama City.. sold the car down there cause didn’t have enough money to make it home. I’ll be thinking about this on my death bed, with tears in my eyes. One of those “don’t look down” moments, but you kinda have to to get the footing right…

Canyon of emotion. @chelseakauai We experienced elation, loss, and redemption within a few hrs here. Happy to have these photos to look back on… that, in many ways, bring me right back into the thick of that rollercoaster. Full story told in my story highlight “Dominican Republic”

Send this to your Dad. Plan something, make memories. Photograph those moments, and print them. Repeat as many times as possible.

Ladders and slides and jumps and dives . This Dominican Republic trip has been all over the place, in the best way. Just starting to tackle the post processing of everything we got.

The recovered footage from yesterday’s post! One of those spots that is forever seared in our memories. Yea yea it’s a tiny bit overexposed but we couldn’t exactly redo it after the drone went swimming😅 All the work we put in to get it back makes me appreciate the shot even that much more :) Happy adventuring everyone! #dominicanrepublic #adventuretravel

We’ve done so many natural waterslides in the Dominican Republic I’m beginning to think the original inspiration to build a water park came from here. I think this was my fav. 😅 Shot by @chelseakauai with a GoPro Max on a long pole.

Right off the Golden State Highway (99) there are endless Almond Blossoms right now. Definitely a worthy pit stop en route to Yosemite from Southern California.
