When we created the Sheer Khurma mix with Khapli Vermicelli, Mishri and Khareek, it was yet another opportunity to go in search of authentic recipes, real stories of people who knew the dish closely and shared an emotional connection with it.
Maroof and his team were our comrades in this journey. Here we present to you Sheeba Iqbal Jairajpuri inspiring story - Sheeba lives in a house that was built a century ago, in the year 1901.
@aab_o_daana was started by her in 2018, a home-dining experience where she celebrates the extravagance and legacy of Awadhi cuisine and the culture of Lucknow.
At Aab-O-Dana visitors are served dishes that otherwise find no place in a regular restaurant. These heirloom recipes have been preserved and passed down several generations.
We wanted to know more about ‘Sheer Khurma’ from her, how she prepared this dish, what it meant to her and so on.
What we learnt from this experience was so inspiring, Sheer Khurma is not just a dish, it’s the first thing made on Eid to symbolise the sharing of sweetness. It is the mithaas that ties people together.💛
Food is not just recipes and ingredients. Food is faith, memories and belonging. 🤗
