This past weekend, I spent the afternoon volunteering at @altadenagirls . If you aren’t familiar with the organization, Altadena Girls was started by 14-year-old Avery Colvert in response to the devastating fires in Eaton Canyon. We spent the afternoon sorting through clothes and makeup, and then helped style girls who came in to rebuild their wardrobes and lives after losing their homes and belongings in the fires.
Though the popup shop is temporary, Altadena Girls will soon become a permanent fixture in the community, offering safe and fun spaces for teen girls - from mental, emotional, and physical health services, to events, classes, and quiet spaces. If you’d like to support Altadena Girls, the best way to do so is by donating at Altadenagirls.org – which will help the organization to continue to build and support their community.

It has been such a heartbreaking past few days here. Thank you to all who have checked in - I am fortunate that I am currently safe at home with my family and dogs, but my heart and prayers are with everyone who has been displaced and has lost so much in these fires. Thank you to everyone who is showing up to help - from the firefighters, to restaurants and organizations providing meals and essential goods, to those donating what they can, and to those who are helping to spread helpful information online. Doing my part to share resources and lists of evacuation shelters for humans and animals in need, along with ways to give back for those who are eager to help.
