✨Coming in June from Janus Contemporaries: ORLANDO, MY POLITICAL BIOGRAPHY (2023)—Paul B. Preciado’s playful and profound study of identity. Our edition of the film, entering the collection on Blu-ray and DVD, features a new conversation with Preciado. ✨ Taking Virginia Woolf’s novel ORLANDO: A BIOGRAPHY as his starting point, the academic virtuoso turned filmmaker fashioned this documentary—a personal essay, historical analysis, and social manifesto. By inviting a diverse group of more than twenty trans and nonbinary people to play the role of Orlando, weaving into Woolf’s narrative their own stories of transition and identity formation, Preciado interrogates the relevance of Orlando in the ongoing struggle to secure dignity for trans people worldwide.

Evening viewing recommendation? Only a few more days to watch Ken Russell's X-rated spectacle THE DEVILS (1971)—a deliriously overheated, blasphemous tale of sexual frenzy and demonic possession in a 17th-century convent—before it leaves the Criterion Channel in April! And don't miss HELL ON EARTH: THE DESECRATION AND RESURRECTION OF THE DEVILS (2002), which goes behind the scenes of how Russell’s film came to be, featuring conversations with Russell and others as well as scenes cut from the release for being too provocative!
