We are proud to care for over 2,000 miles of waterways across England & Wales 🙌 But looking after these precious blue and green spaces is becoming increasingly more difficult as we face climate change, funding cuts and an ageing network. 🔗 Check out the link in our bio to find ways you can help us keep canals protected, cared for and open to all 💙 #KeepCanalsAlive #CanalRiverTrust #Canals #Rivers #Charity #Fundraising

On 21 March 1774, around 30,000 people gathered to watch the first boats make the 60-foot descent through #Bingley Five Rise Locks. ⏳ Fast forward 250 years, and Bingley is still a much-loved attraction for boating, walking and wildlife. 🛥️🚶🦆 It takes passion and hard work to keep heritage structures like these alive for two and a half centuries. Our supporters, volunteers and staff are all so important in continuing the timeline of our canal history. #KeepCanalsAlive #Bingley250 #BingleyFiveRiseLocks #CanalRiverTrust #Heritage

Many structures along our waterways are over 200 years old and play an important, but often overlooked, role in maintaining #biodiversity . Bridges, tunnels, locks, weirs, cottages...all provide valuable habitats. A wealth of life hidden in the nooks and crannies, making the most of the damp conditions and shaded areas under bridges and in tunnels. Join ecologist Laura Mullholland and presenter @meganmccubbinwild to find out how buildings become important habitats for wildlife.🦇 Watch the full video on our YouTube channel. 📽️ #KeepCanalsAlive #CanalRiverTrust #UrbanEcology #Canals #UKwildlife #bats
